Omaha Steaks Review

IMG_4385

First I’d like to say that I’m not getting paid to do this review. I’ve seen the Omaha Steaks banners online and I’ve passed by the stores for years, but never tasted anything. I’ve heard from friends for years that their stuff is good and I just had a craving. So for Father’s Day I decided to order one of their special packages.

What I Ordered From Omaha Steaks

The Fire Up The Grill package 1 $59.99 $59.99
It included:
(1 pkg.) Boneless Pork Chop 4/4 Oz
(1 pkg.) Cake Chocolate Lovers 6 Inch
(1 pkg.) Filet Mignon 2/6 Oz
(1 pkg.) Top Sirloin Steaks 2/6 Oz
(1 pkg.) Omaha Steaks Burgers 4/4 Oz
(1 pkg.) Chicken Breast, Bnl 1 Lb
(1 pkg.) Potatoes Stfd Baked 4/5.75 Oz
Free Omaha Steaks Burgers 12/4 Oz

While my Omaha Steaks were en route to my house I had an opportunity to ask a friend that was over our house soon after I had ordered if she ever had Omaha Steaks. She exclaimed, “OMG they are the best.” Nuff said, I was pumped and ready for arrival.

It Should Be Here Any Day Now

My wife and the kids were out to dinner and when we got home, I noticed this giant styrofoam cooler by the front door. Yeh baby!

Let’s Grill

We followed the directions and thawed some via the slow method in the refrigerator. It took slightly more than the 24 hours to get a good thaw. Later on we tried the water method in a bowl, but I recommend the refrigerator method if you can wait.

As you can see all food comes individually blast frozen and vacuum sealed.

How Omaha Steaks Taste

You can see the results of a nice grill session. Of course I did the quarter turn cross hatch grill marks. The filets, the chicken, and the pork medallions are small typically in the package deals. However, Omaha Steaks has larger sizes. These packages are like samplers and it is was perfect because I wanted to sample alot of different things. On my next order, I would get larger cuts though.

The Filet Mignon’s were fantastic. I thought the price of the fillets were an excellent value. I’ve grilled many steaks at home that were either purchased at my local Publix, Costco, or even the boutique butcher. All of those steaks have been good, but not as good as these Omaha Steaks fillets. Moreover, the steaks from these stores after they were grilled did NOT have this distinct meaty flavor that you will know what I mean once tasted. Typically high end steak houses meats have this same flavor. Maybe its the aging?

Omaha Steaks Desserts

My package came with the chocolate cake. I don’t have a picture of the chocolate cake, the potatoes, the burgers, or the top sirloin steaks. The potatoes came with a sour cream, cheese, and bacon blend and when cooked right they were REALLY good. The burgers were also delicious, but I don’t recommend defrosting these using the water method as it will deplete the precious moisture from the burger patty. Moreover, the unexpected surprise was the chocolate cake. Normally, I’m not a fan of multiple chocolate layered deserts, but I have to honestly say this was one of the best chocolate cakes I’ve ever eaten.

Conclusion

I would definitely order Omaha Steaks again and this time it doesn’t have to be an occasion. If you are interested in ordering Omaha Steaks check out what they have to offer.

    20oz filet mignon is gigantic.

A final addendum. A little web research and confirmation from the web site shows they do not list a USDA grade. No “prime”, no “choice”. They call some of their steaks “premium”….which carries no real meaning.

On another site, a poster suggested they were buying select meat and cutting it up and repackaging the meat. I think this may be true.

If you go on other company’s sites they say prime or dry aged prime.

Just orderd a special. I will report back

In response to “what trimming?” the filets come without the outside connective tissue removed. If you cook them like this, then the outside bites are chewy. When I buy filet whole at Sams, I trim, trim, trim. About 20% becomes chunks for shish kebob, 20% becomes waste, and the remaining 60% is steak.

I bought the steaks as a gift for my 88 year old father. He liked them. BUT…. FOLKS GET READY FOR A FLOOD OF MARKETING FOLLOWUP. We have gotten call after call by the Omaha steaks marketing folks bugging us to buy some more of their products. After our repeated requests for them to stop, the schumcks making the calls just keep on talking and say “our number was on the list” and still they keep calling… SO BOYS AND GIRLS, IF LOVE GETTING PHONE CALLS FROM OMAHA STEAKS, go ahead and order some. I have learned my lesson. No more dealings with these guys.

The title of the review has the word “honest” in it. It states the writer was not paid for the review. But why are there buttons to click to order from Omaha? Why doesn’t the review mention the annoying marketing that follows the first purchase, as mentioned by another reviewer. I guess I’m doubting the appropriate use of the word “honest” in the title.

I’ll say this I never received anything in the mail. I did get a few phone calls where I asked them to remove me from their list. I haven’t received anything other than email specials.

This review is completely 100% honest of my experience with Omaha Steaks. Is it the best steak I’ve ever eaten in my life? No. I’ve eaten at The Palm, Capital Grille, Morton’s, Prime 112. Its nowhere near that. However, it was better than 90% of the store bought steaks I’ve gotten at the grocery store or at any BJs or Costco. I’ve bought a lot of meat at those two price clubs in my years.

I should probably do an updated review of the product since its been awhile.

“First I’d like to say that I’m not getting paid to do this review.”

bullshit your affiliate links are all over this page. you have every incentive to tout omaha steak’s overpriced steaks

  • Jason

Yes those affiliate links are there. I did pay for my order myself though and that is what I was referring too.

As far as touting these steaks to make money, I’ve made $50 so far. Its not like anyone’s getting rich or enough to even pay for my server. However, my wife and I talked about it before your post even and we are donating all Omaha Steak’s affiliate earnings to buy a goat for a family via Heifer. If we don’t sell enough to pay for a goat, we will probably gift a set of chicks and ducks. Ideally would like to gift a few goats, so the more anyone buys, the more animals we will be gifting.

Like I said $50 this month and its the best month of the year. I don’t make much from this Mark so take it easy.
