Fashion - The Basics: Part 2

Okay - so as a comparison to Oprah's show today... here's what Tim Gunn's Guide To Fashion Says you need as your Wardrobe Basic 10. There are a few differences:

1. The Timeless Trench
(agreed)

2. Sweatsuit Alternative
(example: cardigan, tee & black capri; v-neck sweater & dark jeans or slim black pants.)

3. Boots, Pumps & Ballet Flat
(I TOTALLY agree with Tim here... you NEED some boots - and obviously this doesn't include gym shoes for working out.)

4. Shaped Jacket & Go Anywhere Top
(I also agree here... for some of us it could be denim - cotton or whatever fabric... just a jacket that FITS. And a top that you KNOW you look good in and can wear ANYWHERE!)

5. Signature Jewelry
(ex: splashy piece; a personal piece you're NEVER seen without; or a nice classic watch. I think this depends on whether you're a "jewelry" person or not... JMO.)

6. Foundation Garments
(Good, QUALITY and correctly fitted bras and panties in NUDE! Again, I agree - I love colors - but there's nothing worse than seeing a woman with her "polka dot" bra showing through her blouse... or that ROLL if it doesn't fit right! I believe these can make you FEEL better!)

7. The Day Dress
(2 of them... dresses for daytime - nothing too fancy - just something comfortable you can throw on and look "done".)

8. After-Five Look
(Obviously, if you don't do much "after 5" stuff - you're not going to need much of this...)

9. New, Cheap, Trendy Item
(I have to agree here too. You don't need to build a wardrobe on this - but it's okay to buy something trendy to add to your look - but don't spend a lot of money on something that isn't going to be "in" next year.)

10. Denim
(I'm SO busted on this one... you don't need a million pairs of jeans! HUH? Depending on what you wear for your job - etc., most women only need 2 - 3 pairs... all should be trouser or classically cut in a dark wash. The only place I differ here in reality is that I like some longer for heels and some shorter for flats. Just my personal style.)

Then the Accessories:

Bags: Functional and sized, summer & evening clutch. (So I still have a problem - right?)

Pashmina: a great cover - and I couldn't agree more!!!

Silk Scarf: again - it's a great addition that I love... around your neck, in your hair, on your purse!

Perfume: I'm very allergic, but I think you should have a fav perfume... but something soft. Nothing that knocks people over BEFORE you enter the room!

Shoes: Yes - we touched on this before - but let's do it again, shall we? Boots: 1 dress pair; 1 casual pair. Flats: for work and jeans. Evening shoes: to dress up and go with anything. (Obviously I have problems with this area - but I DO see the point!)

Okay - so again, I hope this was helpful to you all. One of the things that is suggested FIRST in the book is to CLEAN OUT YOUR CLOSET! If it doesn't fit, doesn't make you FEEL good or needs repair - get rid of it! Give it away or whatever you need to do, but don't take up your valueable space with stuff you don't need.

Smooches everyone!
