my washing machine is completly quiet

We recently endured Hurrican Katrina (15 days w/no power) and hooked my generator up to the washing machine for power. Now when I turn it on it won't make any noise at all. My husband thinks we burnt up the motor by running it throught a long extension cord. I think it might be the lid switch. Wat do you think?

Hi! Not sure if I can be of much help but If it's the lid switch, It will fill and then stop, since the lid only has to be closed to adgitate (sp?:dunce: )
I *think* all washers have instructions on the lid, of what to do if it quits working, things to try and go thru. You might give that a try before doing anything drastic.
BTW, our washer has run off an extension cord for 4 years, since there is no outlet close to it.
