Don't know if ANY of you have any interst at all, but I did so I wanted to share.
With the new little one coming and all the construction in our home (plus my allergies) I started looking at purchasing a room air cleaning system of some kind to help out with some of the air cleaning. I use the expensive filters in our central system and within a few weeks (with all this work going on) they look terrible!
Anyway, I had about decided on the Oreck after a lot of homework - but THEN my mother called me when she got her Consumer Report Magazine... Thank Goodness and Mama!!! They just tested room air cleaners.
The Oreck and the Sharper Image and almost ALL fo the Ionic Air Cleaners came out WORST on the list!!! Boy! Would I have been made if I'd bought one of those things. Not only do they NOT clean the air well at all, but they also are doing studies and there are indications that the ionic process releases ozone into your home which is very bad.
They only recommended two (2) sytems and you can go to Consumer Reports to read all the details if you'd like. But.. the two machines are:
Friedrich c-90a by Sylvane and Whirlpool AP45030R. One is around $450+ and the other is something like $230+. Both are relative inexpensive to run and the report gives you the rundown on dust removal, etc.
Hope this helps...
