My partner and I are placing our belongings in storage and moving overseas for a few years after our wedding. Is it appropriate to ask for cash or cheques? Any ideas?? :wine:

hmmmm... I am not so sure. What I would do is tell your mom or someone else close to you who might be asked by others what to get you to pass that thinking along to guests who ask. But really, to tell people point blank to give you money is, I think, tacky. That said, we got a wedding invite a while back that said -- on the invitation in fancy print-- "Enveloped gifts are a blessing". I was horrified. Thought this was rude beyond belief, but hub thought it made sense. So I guess my take is not the only one.:)

I agree with Meliz. It's really not polite/appropriate/whatever to ask for money, even if it's phrased in the nicest possible way. However, if someone asks you flat out what you want, I think there's nothing wrong with telling them. Just don't put it on your invitations or anything tacky like that.

I moved overseas after I got married, and we just put all the wedding gifts in storage with everything else.
