I'm in the middle of redecorating our master bedroom. We ordered a new bed - the low modern kind you can find in magazines such as Metropolitan Home (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect?link_code=ur2&camp=1789&tag=weddingtalker-20&creative=9325&path=external-search%3Fsearch-type=ss%26keyword=Metropolitan%20Home%26index=maga zines) We got new sheets (2 sets) and a new blanket with matching shams.

Any ideas on colors that look good together and would match well with dark wood?

Ooh, I definitely think that the colors you mentioned (deep orange/yellow) would look great with a chocolate brown! I could easily see reds/oranges/yellows with your dark brown, plus maybe some plum accents...kinda rich & exotic.

problem is we already got new sheets.....one set is solid white and the other is solid pale yellowish (we thought it was a pale lime green in the store - don't ask), with a beautiful shimmery brownish/goldy thin blanket and shams. I'd kinda like everything to tie in together. I guess I could exchange the sheets (I've thought about it), but they are pretty expensive and we got them on an amazing sale so we'd be paying full price for a new set I'm sure. Not really worth it or affordable actually. So ok, do you think the orange/yellow wall idea would go?

Oh, absolutely! Gold/dark brown/light brown will look nice together. I think I'd lean towards darker walls, like reddish or deep orange/rust to provide some more options (rather than just yellow and brown). Or pull it together with curtains and throw pillows with some more colors. Having said that, though, "just" yellow and brown are a good combo on their own. :)

Sheets are usually under the bedspread anyway (if you make your bed, lol). White goes with just about everything, and I think the yellow sheets would look great with any of the warmer colors, since it's warm itself.
