Our pool has the auto pilot chlorine system. This is where you DUMP a bag of salt in the pool and the system chemically changes it into chlorine as it runs through the drain and into the pipes passing an electric current.
Well, its been really really rainy over the last 4 months and HOT too. Both of these things can overwhelm your chlorine system and create the wrong PH which is perfect for algae growth.
We had green algae covering our deep end step and a light haze of algae covering the beach step (the first step).
Here is what you need to do to get rid of Algae in 1 day:
What you need:
1. A jug of chlorine at a pool supply store. Comes in 2 gallon jugs.
2. A jug of Sulphuric Acid Non Fuming
What to do:
1. Dump the whole jug of chlorine into the pool. Dump most of the jug over the infected parts of the pool.
2. Wait 2-3 hours.
3. Dump about 3-6 cups full (estimate it) of acid over the infected parts as well as spreading a little bit around the pool.
The algae was essentially gone in 1 day.
I ended up brushing the deep end step a little bit to get tiny tiny remnants.
What I also picked up was an oxydizer pack that you cast into the pool. Its a powder substance and it was recommended I spread it every other week. I personally don't think its neccessary to do that. Maybe once a month.
Its been 1 1/2 weeks since I got rid of the pool algae so sometime this week I will cast the oxydizer pack into the pool.
