In the past few months, we've begun to notice our cat losing a lot of weight. At first we thought it was just in comparison to our big baby boy, but we soon realized it wasn't and that she was really skinny. Poor little thing is a feather and weighs less than 7 lbs. She also has diarrhea all the time and is ALWAYS hungry. She runs to the kitchen if anyone is in there and is constantly scrounging for food. She will basically eat anything you give her.

I took her to the vet again the other day and they took some blood. The dr was convinced she had a thyroid problem, but all of the tests came back normal. She did have bacteria in her stool so I was given an antibiotic to give her daily. Now they are telling me they think she has pancreatitis. I am bringing my girl into the vet this a.m. to stay overnight for a day or so. She needs to be hooked up to an IV. :(

Not that it's ever a right time, but this is really bad timing. We are going away on Sunday for 9 days and I feel terrible to leave her if she is sick. My grandpa is going to watch her and I know he will take good care of her, but I feel guilty. :( Please keep my little girlie in your thoughts that she recovers from this quickly or atleast they can get everything under control so that she is more comfortable.

Awww C, I'm so sorry your furbaby is sick. Poor girl. I know all to well what it's like to go through that, and it just breaks your heart seeing them like that. But try not to worry. The iv often does them wonders, and at least she has someone to take good care of her in your absence. Just the same, I know you'll still worry.;) But I'll be thinking of her and saying lots of prayers that she makes a quick recovery. Hang in there C!

Awe poor kitten and her poor mom!

Have they tested her for kidney disease? Sometimes those symptoms can indicate that too. My mom's cat had the same symptoms-- they think she had a thyroid condition, or maybe an iron deficiency. Apparently the whole weight loss/ravenous appetite thing can indicate a whole host of things. Glad that your vet is at least getting to the bottom of it. Mom's poor kitty went untreated for 3 years or so (we all just blamed it on her getting old, she was 15). But as we now know they can totally treat these things... so try not to worry. (not that this is possible).

Don't feel guilty! You are a great cat-mom. I am totally thinking of you guys. Try to have fun on your trip... grampie will take great care of her.

thanks!

They are going to treat her as an outpatient for 3 days. I have to bring her in the mornings and pick her up in the afternoons. She is getting hydrated and hopefully we'll see some improvement by Friday. I haven't spoken to the vet in depth yet so I don't know the details of her condition. I will update later when I know more.

hiya!

my fur baby is doing much better. she is still staying with my grandpa since we just got home, but he says she's been great. we will pick her up tomorrow and i can see for myself. she was treated for pancreatitis while at the vet and put on a low dose of thyroid medication for a couple of weeks.

Whew! That's good news. Hopefully that gets rid of the source of her problem and she's back to her old self in no time. I hate when my furbabies are sick.:cat:
