How do you wash your jeans so that they don't shrink?
I know to use cold water and have heard to hang them dry so they don't shrink, but then they always turn out hard if I don't put them in the dryer.
Also just curious how often you wash jeans? Do you wash them after every wear or do you get more use out of them? I definitely wear mine a few times before washing them. Don't know why I treat them differently then any other pair of pants I wear, but for some reason they seem to need less washing.

If they are not that tight, then I put them in the dryer. I kind of know which pants fit JUST right -- and won't fit that way if dried... so I lay them flat to dry. Yes, they're harder feeling for a while, but that's ok. I also have some jeans that I turn inside out to wash b/c they have little jewels on the pocket that are cute. (Trendy, I know... ) Any jeans I have with holes in them are usually hand washed to avoid BIGGER, unwanted holes. :)
Yeah- I never wash my jeans right after I take them off unless they are dirty or have something spilled on them, etc. I do the same with my work pants. I was told once that it isn't the WEAR that wears them out, it is the excessive washing. So, I try to avoid that so I won't ruin my clothes. I think W's clothes look old before mine do b/c he throws his in the wash after like every wear. (Annoying! He doesn't wash the clothes- that's why! I can't complain - he does a LOT of the tasks that I don't want to do!!)
:D There's my :2cents:

I throw them in the dryer. I have never had jeans shrink  yet, anyhow :D
I always thought most jeans were "preshrunk" but since the past few years I usually buy jeans that aren't exactly baggy but not close to being tight either.
I will wear jeans 2-3 times before washing. Sometimes more, sometimes less. Depends on if I just throw them on to run to town for a few minutes or if I wear them all day and/or get them dirty.
We usually wear jeans and work pants twice before washing, unless they get something on them. We wash in cold water and use the low temp setting on the dryer.

BTW.......I wash EVERYTHING in cold water, even towels. It saves a lot more than you think on the electric bill in the long run.

I'll wear jeans twice before washing, and I always line dry because it seems like it's a waste of electricity since they're so heavy and take longer to dry. I'll throw them in the dryer on no heat for 10 minutes w/ a fabric sheet to make them soft.

Heaven,
I usually wash all things in cold , too. Mostly b/c I was usually at a lack of time, and sorting wasn't a big option. Therefore, I didn't want colors to run, so I didn't use hot water much. I think now that I"m doing this job... I'll actually have time to SORT WHITES OUT OF MY LAUNDRY!!!!!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!

I wash/dry them in the cold/darks pile of laundry. I usually only wear mine once because I sit on the floor so much that the knees bulge after a day of wear not to mention all the other stuff that gets on my clothing
I've not had jeans shrink in short term...usually by the time they are starting to shrink they have wear holes elsewhere and need to get replaced anyway.

I usually wash favorite jeans in lukewarm water and soak it for 15-20 min. (Ordinary and day to day jeans just cold water to save some energy.)Extremely hot water helps the fabric to shrink, and cold water fails to remove dirts in it. Never use anti stain chemicals and I try not to use the drier too often but dry the jeans outside up side down. Never hang the jeans under direct sunlight. This helps to prolong the colors of jeans. :thumb2:

I put them in the washing machine, lukewarm, with soap and fabric softener...
They always shrink a little, but then I put them on and after 10 mins they're just like before.
Anyway, once a pair of jeans that I had shrank like two sizes, pity, because I loved them.
Ah, and I never wash them after wearing them just once, unless they are light blue, those always get dirty if they're long (I like them long). I don't know how many times I wear them before I wash them... but I have so many clothes that I don't wear the same thing in maybe two or three weeks... I guess I wash them after wearing them three times or so.
