Tommy wants a new inside puppy. Probably another poodle or something that will be Lexi's size (4-5 lbs fully grown).....the problem is.....Lex is the "baby". She is so spoiled and soooooooo very attached to me. She is either on my lap, lying next to me, lying at my feet, or where ever she is she is looking at me.
If I go into the bathroom and shut the door, she's there at the door when I open it. She can be (the rare occasions she actually does this) asleep on the couch while I'm in the recliner. If Tommy or Darek walks up to me, she's awake and in my lap with her nose on them trying to root them away from me.
I know she will go psycho if we bring another dog home. I brought my uncle's mini yorkie here for an hour or so for them to "play" .....Lexi got so mad she took a dump in the floor. Poodles are very spiteful that way.

Any ideas or advice?

I've never had a dog, but I've heard that sometimes it can be helpful if the dog you already have can go with you to the shelter/breeder/wherever you're getting a new one. That way your doggy can help "pick out" a puppy that it's okay with.

:eyebrow: I would if Tommy would let me
:vent: unfortunately he won't. He says "Can't you at least pick someone 1/2 decent looking to lust over?" Men!

Thanks J. I may try "borrowing" a friends puppy for an hour or so to see how Lex reacts to it first. Tommy says she'll get over it but I'm not so sure
She hates going to "look at the babies" at Petsmart.....it makes her nervous. Maybe I can slowly introduce her to new dogs then see how it goes.

How old is Lex?

I think it will take quite a while for Lex to get used to the idea, He's not used to sharing his People and especially his Mommy!

I baby sat my Mom's dog for a week and my dog (a poodle too) still wasn't even sort-of used to the dog. But, Surely when Lex finally comes to the realization that you will still love him just as much after the new dog. He'll be ok.. But he still HAS to be the boss and you'll have to let him be the boss of the new puppy too.

I wished I had some wisdom to share but it sounds like an adventure  Good Luck!

Hi There! Honestly, some dogs are more "pack" oriented than others. Even though they are supposedly by nature pack animals - not all of them are. Now all of mine seem to get along with everyone regardless, but that isn't always the norm... I'm just lucky because none of them have ever been the "only" dog.

I have a friend who is a K-9 trainer and his current dog is a chocolate lab who is VERY dog aggressive! Woody (his dog) HATES other dogs and will openly go after any other dog that he sees or is around! That isn't typical of labs, but it is true for this dog. With poodles being somewhat tempramental, and your baby having been the "only" baby for so long, Tommy may have to accept the fact that you aren't going to be able to bring another dog into the family as long as you have this one.

Sorry - but that's just how it is with some of them.:(

This is very true, you may be out of luck.
