I'm planning a baby shower for my best girlfriend and have read about different baby shower games online because I'm trying to decide which ones to do. Any personal experience with a game that was really nice for the mom-to-be and/or fun for the rest of the guests?
We played some good ones at our shower. :)
We did the "baby no-no" game where everybody gets a sticker/safety pin/clothespin at the beginning of the night & has to give up their pin (to the person who calls them on it) if they say the word "baby." The person with the most stickers/whatever at the end of the party wins a prize. It's kinda silly, but some people really get into it. Plus, it's one that happens throughout the whole party, so you don't need to plan extra time for it.
We also had some unlabeled baby food jars for people to guess the food inside. They could look or smell or taste (although it would be more of a challenge if you can't taste it). The person who got the most right won a prize. People seemed to enjoy that one & there were a couple tricky flavors (prunes, I think, and squash?).
One that I thought would be more serious than it was is the "name the baby" game. We took all the letters from my and dh's first and middle names & had people come up with baby names using only those letters. I thought the winner was going to be the person who thought of the most names, but there were only 3 blanks on the paper and we were told we had to judge the "best" name. We got some VERY silly ones, and it was really entertaining to read them all out at the end!
I really wanted to have people guess the stats (sex, birthday/time, length, weight), but for some reason we didn't do that & I just set up my own at expectnet.com.
Not really a game, but something else I liked was having everybody write down some words of wisdom or wishes for us and/or the baby. You could do just a blank book, but we did colored index cards (without lines) and then put them in a photo album. I liked that idea because everybody could work on theirs while we were opening gifts (that kinda gets old to watch) & then we could add photos from the shower into the same album.
I've been to a shower where you have to bring a baby picture of yourself & then everyone has to try to match them all up with the adults in the room. I thought that one was pretty entertaining, but you have to plan ahead & make sure the invitations tell people to bring a baby photo.

We did that at mine. :)
Thanks for all the suggestions! Sounds like you had a great time at your shower!! When was it?? BTW, I saw your ticker yesterday and meant to say something to you .........I cannot believe how close you are!!! It's crazy. Did the time fly quickly for you or did it drag on? Are you ready? Are you excited? Any more boy or girl feelings? I can't wait to hear!!! Promise you will come to HT or have K come on and give us the big news! :)
Our shower was at the beginning of November. I'm really glad we did a co-ed shower, because lots of our friends made it and of course DH was there, too!
I know! I am so CLOSE!! AAAHHH! :D It's gone back & forth between time flying by and dragging on. At about 30 weeks it flew by. Now I'm pretty much finished with everything I wanted to have done by the time baby arrives, so of course time is dragging again. K and I are both excited but bored. Nothing new is happening, and we just have to WAIT!
As my midwife says, it's one of the most important days in our lives, yet we have no idea when it will happen! :wait:
I still think it's a girl, but honestly EVERYONE who has seen me in person insists it's a boy. Most of the old wives' tales say girl, as do the Chinese calendars.
I'm feeling pretty good. Big (up 40+lbs and 12" on my waist!) and tired & hungry, but not miserable at all. Carpal tunnel is still annoying, but it hasn't gotten any worse. I imagine that I will be pregnant for quite a few more weeks. ;)

For my s-i-law's shower, we took a picture of her face and one of her hubby's and made copies and printed them off on the computer (as big as we could w/out have them distort).... then we broke people into groups and gave each group a poster board and picture of brad and erin. Then, they had to "create" what the baby would look like by cutting apart and combining the pictures. It was hilarious!!!!!!!!! People really made cute/hilarious faces. It's a great game!
Good luck!
:silly:
A few that I did for my friends shower -
I read part of a verse from nursery rhymes and then they had to guess what the nursery rhyme was. For example - "What? Lost your mittens??" From "The Three Little Kittens" I had 10 of them on my list.
The other one was like the board game Scattegories (I think that's the one) anyway, I took the baby's name and wrote it vertically on a piece of paper (you can use first and middle depending on the the length). They gave them a minute or two to write down one baby thing that started with each letter. After they were done, we went through and if someone else had the same word, you had to cross it off. The one with the most words left won. Does that make sense? Cause I almost confused myself!!
I did another one, where you put a bunch of baby things on a tray and have the mom carry it around. Of course everyone thinks they are going to write down all the things on the tray, but after mom has been around with the tray, you ask her to leave the room. Then ask questions about her. Like what color was her shirt, was she wearing a necklace, etc.

This game sounds a bit stick, but very fun for adults and children.
Give each participate a waxed paper and bubble gum.
Each participant is to shape the gum into a baby. They can chew the gum if they want or just shape it with their fingers.
Have different categories-most baby like looking, most creative, most funny....
Have the mommy to be decide the winners of each category and award those people prizes.
The adults and kids all had fun and it was neat to see what people came up with. Since my SS liked this game alot, we had also done it for my DD's birthday party which everyone had shaped their gum into the shape of Hello Kitty.
