First - You should have your cat checked for UTI or diabetes - it's not normal behavior for a healthy cat to decide to pee outside it's litter box.
Second - Put a second litter box in an alternate location - perhaps with how busy you've been her box isn't getting emptied as often - maybe not, but most 'experts' recommend one more litterbox than you have cats, so adding a second box might satisfy her.
Third- Get a couple economy (cleaning) size boxes of baking soda. Dump a mountain on your wet spot - let it soak up the water, then scoop it up (I use a dustpan, then a brush and a dustpan.) When as much water as possible has been drawn up in this fashion - put a fan on it and dry it out, then vaccuum.
The baking soda won't add to your smell problem. It could be that the previous owners had 'issues' they simply carpeted over, and you might need to pull up the carpet to check out the underfloor.

sorry to hear of your kitty problems. we are dealing with them too. janice has had two diarrhea accidents on our bed. :gag: and also pee. thank goodness we have a plastic mattress cover b/c of the baby or our new mattress would be ruined. it sucks! hope phoebe is ok - let us know! also, did you rent the steam cleaner or do you own it? what kind is it and is it good/worth using? i have an area rug downstairs that janice has pooped and thrown-up on and I would like to clean it ASAP before jax starts crawling. ewwww

If it's nearly dry and the smell is mostly gone, don't bother with the baking soda - but if your kitty pees again, before you do any washing, dump the baking soda mountain (while the pee is still wet)- it will miraculously soak up most of the pee stain - so that when you do wash it, you aren't just rinsing the pee through the carpet onto the underfloor.
Even though you clean the box every day, if you can afford it, I recommend a second box. Cats are funky - that's a fact.
I know it's an odd question - but does your cat's pee smell funny? If she does have a UTI and you've got a good nose, you will likely smell the difference. Anyhow, a visit to the vet is in order - and your vet will probably have fantastic advice.

Sorry, I really can't help but the next time you have a wetspot get a box fan and dry it that way, and it wouldn't be a bad idea to have unflood people come out or even a professional cleaner that has one of the very powerful vacuums.
