View Full Version : Eating too fast
Hi! My dog is going to be three yrs old in two days and all of a sudden she started eating her food really fast. She acts like she is starving. I feed her everyday at the same time. I just don't know what to do she actually has choked a couple of times. I heard if you put rocks in their food it would slow down their eating habits but I don't want to hurt her teeth. Plus when she was a puppy she always tried eating rocks and pebbles. I don't know what to do!

Is there something or someone new? Could the dog feel competition? Do you have a vet, or maybe try to google your question cause that does sound funny.
Thanks! Well she first started it when we moved. Now if dh or I am near her bowl she will go over and eat really fast. But if we walk out of the room she will too. It is almost like she won't eat with out us near. But she will eat while we are in bed. Because Her bowl will be like half full when we go to bed but when we get up it will be empty.

Maybe the dog is having nervous reactions from Moving, etc.. but no matter what don't do the rocks, that sounds cruel because if he eats THAT FAST, some rocks are going to go with the food, and if he doesn't pass them you may find yourself in surgery
I would definitly talk to a vet to see if there are any tricks or if you just have to wait and let time do it's thing.
Good luck and keep us updated, I am curious as to what you find out.
Okay, well after talking to my vet and hearing what he had to say on the subject, I decided to change her dogfood. So far it is working. Before I was buying her the little bites (she was a really tiny puppy so I feed her the little bits puppy food) Purina is who had it. Well I went the larger pieces and now she does like she did before. She always just picks at her dog food all day but she would eat it all before I would feed her again. The smaller bits are made for smaller dogs and don't have as much of everything my big dog needs and that is why she was eating so fast. Maybe if I would have fed her more a day it might also have helped but I don't know. She is doing great now. :D
