My grandpa is turning 90 next month and we are throwing him a party for about 40 people. He is such a wonderful, outgoing, kind, generous, sincere man who has a lot of friends and people that love and care about him. We are having a brunch - including omelete station (yum!). Anyway - the invitations are ordered, the caterer is hired, we now need to rent tables and chairs, linens and buy the paper goods. For centerpieces, we are doing flowers, but I don't know what kind yet. Any suggestions on flowers that aren't super feminine and that are in season in March (are flowers even seasonal??? lol)? Any other ideas that would make this occasion even more special for my grandpa?

Hmm.. I think the manliest flower I know is the carnation. Simple, no fuss, little scent, bold colours...

What about music-- does he have a fave style of music/singer? When we had my grandma's 90th we had people in to sing old big band songs and other old standbys, and she love love loved it.

Have fun with this party! It sounds wonderful. What a lovely way to celebrate a 9/10 of a century.

Instead of doing floral centerpieces, how about candy ones.
Find candies from back in those days and make them into a centerpiece. You could get an oasis and have the candies in different hights by using kabob and popsicle sticks-make them look like lollipops. That can also be the centerpiece. Put a note thanking everyone for coming, and they may take one candy from the centerpiece as their party favor.
I'm sure this will be fun for both kids and kids at heart.
