Gross restaurants

What are some of the worst things you've seen or experienced while at a restaurant? Let's hear those horror stories...

Was in one of my fave mexican restaurants back in my home town and a mouse ran out of a crack in a rock wall that they had. It actually sat on it's hind legs like a dog and begged for food. So my dad started tossing it scraps, lol.

I spent ten years managing restaurants, and it's not as bad (usually) as many fear...but...

1. One of my fantastic (no sarcasm - he was great!) employees blew his nose into his apron. I had to go step by step with him as to why this was disgusting - he really didn't get it. He thought it was good that he wasn't touching his nose with his hands!
2. As one of my employees was lifting a bag of frozen meat patties, the bag broke, spilling the contents all over the floor. I had him cpick them up, count them and throw them away - then got read the riot act by my boss for wasting the food. While I'd likely have cooked and eaten them without thinking at home, I always felt that as a restaurant manager, I had a responsibility to be unquestionably correct and responsible.
3. Though it's not really gross, since most people don't eat right off the table- I'll include this one. I had an employee with Turrett's syndrome. I don't know if his 'odd' behaviour was related to his disability, but he really could pull the most amazing stunts. One Saturday, I was really moving fast when a customer approached me to ask if it was customary for us to sweep the tables with the same broom we used on the floor. Of course, Tim had a reasonable explanation, "I was going back with a cleaning towel to wash it afterward!" He thought it was really efficient.
Honestly, that's about it for yuckies where I've worked. I'm very, very picky about restaurant hygeine but rarely see anything truly serious.

When I was in Mexico, we were eating at a chain restaurant. You'd think that would suggest better cleanliness than just some hole in the wall place. One of the people I was with found a cockroach in his soup...after we had already been eating. :sick:

I saw a worm walking on my salad... :barf: I was in Indonesia.

SS - gross, but not a bad restaurant. Worms come in the lettuce - it's difficult to see every one of them! At least you know you weren't getting pesticides!

I can still remember when my mom served me (at 6 yo) broccoli with a worm on it (it was from our garden.)

thats funny Sydney...in a gross way because I did that last summer....I was so proud of my broccoli...I steamed it and thats when the bugs floated to the top,,,,,:sick: I threw the whole thing away!!!1
