raised flower beds?

Does anyone have raised flower beds. I feel this is the route we have to take in order to have some nice plants/flowers this year. The dirt around here is very stony and not good for planting. ANy ideas what I could frame them in with? I like the look of slate stones.

No.
All of my plants in the garden are in the ground. I did have a wooden planter with morning glory once, and different planters around the house.

Both my garden areas in the backyard are basically raised. The pond are is bordered with stacked brick-type stones, while the plant/ flower garden is bordered with railroad ties.

Thats really pretty....are there fish in the pond?

Yes HEather there are fish in there. We started out with 6 Shabunkins (a type of koi) & 2 goldfish but before long we were down to 4 & 1. Thankfully the 1 goldfish that was left was a female & several of teh Shebunkins were male. How do I know you may ask; becauae for the next year or 2 we had baby fish several times a year. Infortunately that ended when goldy got stuck unter the paver stone used to keep the pump down. Last year we had a bout a dozen Shabunkin/shabunkin-goldfish but a crane found its way to the pond & at the end of the year we had about 5-6. Since we had decided to change the waterfall around a little this year & Rob didn't feel like putting up the little green house for the winter we brought the remaining fish inside. They have been in a 100 gallon tank in the basement with my large water plant (the tall spikes in water) with a grow bulb on a timer.

We had a raised flower bed and used the same stones that Katy did. The flowers got out of control (blue daze) and we ended up pulling them all out. We are now thinking of using that space as an herb garden.

That gives me great ideas Katie!!! I would love to have a water garden like yours. Where did you get the pond? I have seen them in Walmart and Lowes...they aren't too much money. I would love to have fish in mine too.

Heather I got the forms from Lowes during their end of the season clearence (huge bargain). It is 2 forms, the large kidney shaped main area & the waterfall.

C, the ivy in front, chocolate mint on the left & spearmint on the right try to get out of control, so much so that I have to prune them at LEAST once a week but the look best whne I do it a couple times a week.

I actually liked it when me & Roni used to go out there every night & I would prune my garden while she played. I am hoping that this year we can get back to that (I don't think it will be a problem since Nicholas loves being outside & cries when I make him come in fromt he truck to have dinner).
