Does anyone put the carafe and the filter basket of their coffee maker into the dishwasher? I do this every few days. Is that not a good idea?

I don't know if it's okay or not C - but I do it all the time too! I mean - I'll clean it by hand each day... but every day or two I just feel like it needs a good scalding in the dishwasher! I'll definitely be watching to see if someone says we shouldn't!

I've never heard of that being a problem. I mean, the carafe is just glass, right? And the filter basket is probably metal and/or plastic? As long as you keep the plastic parts on the top rack, I don't think it's a problem.

As for cleaning the rest of the coffee maker (which is what I thought this thread would be about!), my mom always ran vinegar through the cycle and then just plain water a couple times to rinse. :)

C,
What happened to your Cuisinart? Did you not replace it with the same. Mine is still doing great even at 2 pots a day.

I ended up getting this one instead of trying the other one again. I was just afraid of it not working again too soon.

I'm very happy with this one so far.

I should say - I run vinegar through the machine part too in order to clean it. But the carafe, the basket (and then mine has a microbasket that's some sort of gold mesh) I run through the dishwasher.

Wonder if there's a website or something that tells us Yeah or Neah or this?

When I had a coffee maker with a carafe and basket I threw them right into the dishwasher. No problems. Now I have one that doesn't have the carafe. You just hold your cup under and push the button and out comes my sweet coffee....:biglaugh:

Heather - is it the cuisinart one? I had that for a while, but then it just stopped working. I'm sure it was just a lemon, but I was afraid to try it again so I ended up getting the one I posted above. The one without the carafe is really cool though. So convenient!!

I love it. It will be 2 years this Christmas that I got it. I haven't had any troubles with it. Its a basic coffee maker but shuts off after 2 hours.

Hey C, sis has the exact same coffee maker (and has had it for 2 years now)and I asked her this weekend-- she does put the filter in the dishwasher, especially if she forgets to clean it right away. So far, so good.
