Since it has been pretty slow around here lately lets discuss one topic each day. Each day brings a new topic. Whomever is on after midnight or first thing during the day will pick the topic. Debates are welcome, opinions a must.....just try to be nice :D
Friday's topic.......Should sex ed and free condoms be allowed in schools?

...only if parents/schools want to do the two things that, more than any others, will reduce their kids' chances of getting knocked up/ a pesky little STD. It seems self-evident in a rational way to me, but I know when it comes to morals and religion, rationality doesn't always rule.

I am all for sex ed being mandatory and condoms being available. I will be the first one to buy my son condoms, even tho the very thought makes me want to hurl. I can only hope that I have and will continue to install solid morals in my son. I hope he doesn't do anything stupid......but I sure as heck did and thank God every day that I didn't wind up w/ a disease or pregnant at a very early age. It's human nature and kids should know what could happen, that way they can protect themself.

Sex education yes, for sure... condoms should be available too, but instead of giving them to everyone in a class (like they did to us in highschool) there should be a place at the school where you can get them...

I agree SS, maybe like the nurses station or the counselers office.

Sex ed - definitely.....and I really like the idea of having condoms available somewhere in the school, but not just given out b/c that seems wasteful.

I think that the condoms should be available confidentially. When you were a teenager, would you go to the nurse or your counselor to ask them for condoms? I know I wouldn't have. How embarrassing is that?
I think that sex ed should be mandatory in elementary school. I think that high school is too late.

I was thinking the same thing, Nicole. Total anonymity would be best.

I agree with everyone. Education and knowledge is power. Remember the older generation thought if they kissed she would get pregnant. Kind of naive but just proves without knowledge they just believe what they were told. Like preteens and teens. If parents don't talk to them and educate them in the ways of the world then their naive friends will. My sister took my niece when she was 10 for a "girls retreat" They discussed her changing body and how boys bodies changed. They kept it at a preteen level but I think it was great. They also have a father son retreat I'd like my hubby and older son to attend. I have to find out more details. I believe it was thru the YWCA.
