Do you believe in the death penalty? Why or why not? If not and you made the laws, what would be the most extreme form of punishment for serious felons?

Not at all. Never. Not even for the Pig Man. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbia/story/2007/01/22/pickton-trial.html

Why?
Moral: I don't believe that anyone has the right to take another's life. It's barbaric, and most nations with laudable human rights records now ban capital punishment; this is for a reason, I think.

Practical:
It's not a deterrent.
It leaves no room for error, and our justice system makes mistakes all the time. If Canada had the death penalty, revelations that once-convicted murderers did not in fact commit the crimes to which they were sentenced to life, would be far more tragic.
Not to be crass, but it's not cost efficient. It costs heaps more to kill someone than to imprison them in miserable conditions for life.

Emotional:
Call me sadistic, but I want true murders to rot for decades, alone with their thoughts and regrets and their guilt in a small cell.

I am all for the death deal. I think all child molestors should be killed, murderers should be hacked off, and so should rapeist. To save our tax money tho I think they should either be beat to death by the family members of whomever they molested/raped/killed. Or tie them up in a field somewhere and leave them. That may sound deranged but anyone that touches a child, forces a woman to have sex against her will, or takes the life of another on purpose deserves to be put thru hell. I do believe that hard and solid proof *DNA, fingerprints, videos, etc...* is a must before sending anyone to prison much less giving them death.
