View Full Version : At it again

Well I'm going for it again, I am going to loose weight and hopefully this time make it my goal. I as 5-10 pounds away from it last year when I attempted it the first time.
Quick recap: last year I went from 205 to 170 but in April had a seriously stressful time with a major auction with my school that benefited the American Cancer Society. At that time I COMPLETELY fell off the weight-loss wagon & never got back on. My weight has gone up slowly but steadily since then and I am now at 187.
Starting this week I am going at it again. Ironically the truck guys I started with last year decided to start again this week. So I have those guys to keep me on track (although they are placing a wager with each other to see who loses the biggest percentage). I also have a new accomplace, my sister. We share an office & she has twist my arm on more than several occasions to eat out instead of eating the lunch I brought with me. She says its all my fault because she knows that I am easily swayed.
We are going to start out slowly by just couting calories. We are both hoping to fit some excersize in but thats a secondary goal. I feel she needs my help as much as I need her not to tempt me. When she told her husband that we were going to do this together he said "what good is that going to do you?" Yeah he's one of THOSE types of guys, likes to keep her historically low self-esteem low so she won't realize that she would be SO much better off without him.
Well thats my story. I will try to post weekly again to keep myself on track.

Hey--you're still 20 lbs. down from where you were. You're awesome! Wish I had your willpower. I'll be checking on ya.
What's the game plan? Counting calories for now?

Thanks gals.
MissRyry, the game plan is the same as I did last year. This week is our base week where we eat normally & count the calories. Then next week we eat 500 less calories for the week. Once we stop loosing weight at that calorie level we drop another 500, and so on until we hit out goal weights. Once we've done that we try to maintain the calorie intake we ended at.
I have a treadmill and excersie bike (as well as some excersie tapes I've had luck with historically). Soon I am going to try to find some to use them again I plan to.

Katy - if you can STAND to do it - I promise if you cut out sugar (you can use fake stuff) it will really help! REALLY it will!
Either way - I think you super and so is your sis! Tell her that she should tell her hub she's getting back in "competition shape"! Maybe that'll make him think?!

I don't think I eat a ton of sugar. I eat a ton of CRAP but not a lot of sugar. I am thinking of giving up pop again Lent to assist in my task. Now since I'm not a catholic hubby laughs at me for giving up anything, espcially since I put the contingency on that I can still have pop if we go out to a resteraunt to eat & Slurpees don't count as pop. It still ends up being quite a bit of poop that I don't end up drinking.

Be careful Katy... there's sugar in things you don't "think" about. Slurpees, iced tea, sodas (unless they're diet), etc. Plus, if you go out to eat, you'd be surprised how many things are made with sugar in them... honey bbq sauces, etc. It's something you really have to think about. Either way - good luck! I can't wait to hear about ALL YOUR SUCCESS!

Good luck Katy!! How do you like your treadmill? I am seriously thinking of getting one...
Turtleheadfred: have you successfully cut out sugar? I *know* this is my downfall... how hard is this? Does this mean honey too? Or just refined sugar? I also know that if hub stopped putting sugar in his coffee and drinking sodas he would drop his extra weight effortlessly. I don't drink either, but I love my Quaker Berry Medly Oatmeal (pre-fab, w/ sugar) and for lunch my Bran Bar (pre fab, with sugar)... I guess I just need to get organized and make my own homemade oatmeal and lunch snacks, sans sugar...

I really liked the treadmill. I would walk on ti for 1/2 hour every other night. I figure I'd start with a brisk walk & work myself up to a run eventually (never was much of a runner).

Hi Meliz! I did - and no, it wasn't easy AT ALL at first, but now I don't even think about it that much. That combined with lowering my carbs, I dropped 25 pounds... and it came off pretty quick! And this from a girl who really never had to diet in her life! I've been THRILLED!
Now that I'm sort of "on the road" I'm much more lenient with myself... allowing more carbs... still not TONS like I used to... and only occasionally having a bite of desert.
I do have honey with my hot tea - it REALLY helps with my sinuses... but I didn't do that when I was first working to get the weight to START coming off. (about 2-3 weeks). I was REALLY strict on myself - but I felt I had to be.
I also eat fruit - just not TONS - and I do splenda or sweet n low. Mainly it's no REAL sugar... basically - you eat like a diabetic would eat! That's the best way I can explain it. It keeps your body from converting the bad carbs to sugar - you're not eating sugar - and your body's metabolism begins to burn the fat you've stored and YEAH you get back to whatever you healthy, happy weight is!

My sister & I are taking another step in the right direction, she is cleaning out her house some & offered me a bowflex crossbow style machine to add to my mini-gym in the basement.
We are also talking about her coming over a couple times a week so we can work out together while all of our kids play upstairs.
Tomorrow starts the official "diet" portion. My sister also reminded me of what I gave up for lent last year & we both might try if this year. Last year I gave up hamburgers & it was rather easy. When we ate out I either had chicken or fish sandwhich instead.

Another week down & I've decided I don't like my scale. I weighed 181 on Saturday & Sunday but for my official weight in last night it said 190!!!!!!! :vent: :bullshit:
I'm going to use my weekend weight as my tally this week becasue the scale also put my sister's weight back to where we started.
This all started when I stepped on the scale first & it said I was 147 (highly unlikely this soon into things & with my clothes fitting the way they do.

Good luck Kate!
Have you told Meg about this site? Maybe if she starts a journal on here so that she can chart her progress away from you know who, then maybe she would stick with her plan to get healthier.
(Side note: you do realize that he is going to say that she is doing just to leave him right? you are a bad influence you know.....:biglaugh: ) Once things get settled around here I will jump on the exercise/eating health band wagon with you guys.

Hey Girley! The Bowflex is supposed to be GREAT!
Also, don't necessarily look at the scale to determine your weight. As you add weight and lose fat - muscle weighs more than fat so the scale may say your actual weight is up when you've actually gained muscle mass but lost fat.
Instead, look at how your clothes fit, your body shape and how you feel. That's a much better indicator of your true health. Eventually the scale will tip - but it's just something to be aware of!
Keep up the great work!!! :five:

He has been saying that since we started this. It changes all the time tho. Monday it was once we got in shape her & I were going to go bar-hopping on the nights we don't exercise (never mentioned who was going to watch all the kids while we do this).
Tuesday it was that she is going to leave him FOR ME! That's right, she is going to elave her husband for her sister. EEEEWWWWW!!!!!
I told my hubby that I was getting in shape to audition for the new *****cat Dolls spot. To which he said "Sweet!"
THF I am all to aware of the fat vs muscle weight issue. I was actually explaining it to Meg's girls the first night we worked out. I really don't want them to work out with us (since I know 1 is extremely body conscious already) but I figure if I can help them learn how to do it properly (& we only let them work out with us a couple nights a week). My sister & I are actually weighing & measuring every Monday after we work out. We are measuring biceps, chest, thighs, waist & hips. I have us a spreadsheet created for us to keep track of it on.

Oh & I though about telling Meg to come on here but I like to be able to vent when needed (same reason why I never got Mom, WEndy or CArrie on here). I wouldn't mind too much if Beth or Robyn were on here because they can handle things like adults.

I did pretty well last week, I balanced the garbage I ate over the weekend with the good stuff I ate during the week & walking about 2-3 miles around Cobo Hall looking at cars then walking from there to Greektown. Thats right folks I walked 10 blocks through down town Detroit & lived to type about it!
Anywho, held strong at 181; at least I didn't gain. I don't neccessarily feel like I'm loosing weight yet but I feel like I've at least had to have toned my muscles up a bit by now. I'm hoping over the next month to see more definition as I loose some fat & bulk the muscles.
So far this week I've been good this week w/salads for lunch yesterday & today. I had a good ab work out last night & look forward to a good leg and arm workout tomorrow. My sister & I are rescheduling our Friday workout to Thursday but I might try to work out a bit Friday anyways.

Just thought I'd check in here.
I am still at it. Working out 3 times a week, except for the few times when I've had other obligations, but always watching what I eat. I still allow myself some junk but have been more deligent about my portions & options. Last night we went to eat at Logan's Roadhouse. I had my usual salad but instead of ribs or steak I had mesquite grilled chicken w/wild rice & a steamed veggie skewer. MMMMMM!
I am proud to say that when I weighed myself the other morning I was 175! I am encourage by this to keep on with my new lifestyle. I haven't been working out the full hour recently but have made sure I am definitely getting my workouts worth in the time we do manage to get in (usually 30-45 minutes). The weather is warming and I am looking forward to starting again to work with my pups on how to go for a walk.

Horray! My "personal trainer" has returned to the day shift so I may have some more "platinum level" workouts more often. To bad for both of us that I started on his first week at days.

I'm pretty much at a plateau. We took the last couple of weeks off working out due to schedule build ups but are starting back up on Wednesday. I haven't been as good with eating as I should be so a plateau is ok with me right now.
I have been contemplating some of my tactics and what I am willing to change (& can keep up with).
