I had an invitation to a friends house for a new years eve party and then just the other day I heard her telling another co-worker no party because her DH had to work on New Years day. Nice of her to let me know so I guess it'll be a nice quiet night for us....again:toast:

I hate going out on NYE because I'm afraid of all the maniac drunk drivers. I prefer to stay home or go out early to dinner and come home way before midnight. One year our neighbors had a party and that was great b/c we just got to walk home when we were ready to go. So anyway, this year we are probably going to hang with my parents for a while....

I will do the typical thing here, have a big dinner with my family, eat the 12 grapes before Midnight and afterwards I may go party with friends till dawn...

Well the 12 grapes is probably one of my favorite traditions! In the last minute before the end of the year, the bells start to ring... there are 12 strokes and for each stroke you eat a grape. For each grape you make a wish. The 12th and last stroke marks the start of the New Year :dunce:
I heard this tradition started in the beginning of 20th century. There was a year when too many grapes were harvested and in order not to let them spoil, the farmers said this would bring good luck and we all do it nowadays :D
I heard in Italy they do the same with linses. In Portugal it's like in Spain, but with raisins.
Happy New Year 2008!!!

Happy New Year Everyone!
We stayed in and cooked fresh shrimp (that we brought home from Florida) with corn and salad - and watched movies. We also watched the "ball drop" both for eastern time and our time (central). It was very nice...
My niece called from London and said it was GREAT there - and she was headed BACK OUT! I'm very happy for her to be having such a great time!

THF, my DH and I spent NYE in london a few years ago, and it was wild!! The streets were packed; it looked like Times Square. I really enjoyed that New Years! Best one to date, I imagine.
We had friends and family over for a small party at our house. Had some drinks, played some cards and such, and visited with some pals that we had not seen in a good while... it was fun. Our son was the only one here (everyone else got sitters), and he was in bed at 8:30pm, so it was a relaxing, fun night w/ friends. :)
