I got my tattoo around my ankle last summer that I wanted. It looks like rosary type beads but instead of a cross it has a heart attached on the end. I don't have pictures or I would post. But I want another one on my shoulder blade area. I saw a picture in mind. It shows a mom figure holding a child( I would want 2 children) and she is just looking down at them. I have to really think about it. I want their names added underneath as well. Does anyone else have tattoos in honor of their children?

I plan to get one for each child I have but I haven't gotten anything yet for Karma, because I can't figure out if I want one for each or make the one I get able to extend for all my children. I thought about doing hearts with angel wings going down my calf and add a heart for every baby I have. I already have three tattoos, so I don't want to be a freaky tattoo lady. You can only see one of my tats so I don't mind that. When I do something for my kid/s I want to be able to show it off.

I don't have the link handy, but we just had this discussion at BT.... I'll see if I can dig it up... unless someone beats me to it.

I have one in honor of my husband (we call it his "brand"). I don't have any plans for on to honor my kids but am planning to get matching ones with my sister. I want to show her how much she means to me (she really needs to be able to see that right now). she will be able to see mine (I plan to get it on my ankle) or her's (I think she's planning to get it on her shoulder).

Hubby gets to get his before I can get my next one. Depending on how things go in the next month he may have his by April/May (we need to sort out another issue before he'll think about it).

Hubby got his 2 weeks ago. It came out awesome and he is extremely pleased with it (which makes all the difference in the world).

Now my sis & I can talk about what we want to get a more serious idea. Then we'll just have to budget them in, so it will probably be several more months before I get my 2nd..

I was looking last night and I think I have it narrowed down to the Celtic mother knot with my boys names on the inside of it on the inside of my wrist...I saw someone elses on a site and thought of having something similar. They had their kids names on the outside though and had flowers around the edges which I wouldn't do....
I will look for the picture...

I like this one but am unsure of the meaning...everyone of them has a specific meaning.....the one above because of the shape is a Mothers Love knot...but this one not sure...just like it..

OH GOSH! Heather I LOVE butterflies... and generally butterfly tattoos look the same to me, but that is BEAUTIFUL!!!

And I LOVE it going up the back like that? Or even up the side of your foot and ankle? (I know, this from a woman with NO tattoos at all) but that is JUST SO PRETTY!!!

OOOOh you make me want to start planning again!!!!

HEather - have you gotten your tattoo yet?

I actaully have one that is being drawn for me right now. It will be across my back. Starting at the top of my left should and going diagonally down towards my right side. It will be 4 flowers. Each representing me,DH and the 2 boys. Mine will a rose(june) DH will be a chrysanthimum(nov) DS1 will be an orchid(dec) and ds2 will be a sweet pea(april) then it will all have green ivy running thru it. I asked her to add a pink breast cancer awareness ribbon near it and she said why don't we weave pink ribbon around tying the flowers together and having them flowing away and down your side. I will post pictures after I get it done. This lady is awesome. We just sat there talking about what I wanted and she just came up with this. I am so excited.

Heather that sounds amazing!

You know I keep toying with the idea - and I like the thought of something across my back (like you said - diagonal is cool... not a "tramp stamp" as they call it) - or the back of my neck going down. But with my hair short in the back (it's in a Pob) it's going to show and I'm not big on everyone seeing and knowing EVERYTHING about me unless I WANT them too!

Hmmmmm

thats why I want it to start on my left shoulder blade and go diagonally down towards the right side...I don't want a tramp stamp either. The tat artist called and I have to stop in and look over her drawing...its DONE....hehehe

ok I saw my drawing and this girl is awesome...there is one problem...I can't justify spending $700 on a tattoo...thats how much she was going to charge. It was about 5-6 inches long and about 2 inches wide. I planned a couple hundred but not a mortgage and car payment....So I am going to see if she will downsize it or I will have to have something else. And THF she would let me have a copy because she said it was her's...

WTF?!? Who does she think she is? Kat von D?!?! Ari from Miami Ink?!?!?
I mean HONESTLY!!!! That's NUTS!!!!

Can you sketch at all? HEre's what I'm thinking... could you do just a rendering of it for someone else... then get them to do THEIR version of it!

Or - here's a thought - what about an ART SCHOOL??? There are TONS of talented people in schools - maybe someone from one of them could draw something for you - then you could take THAT sketch to an artist for the tattoo?

Just trying to think of SOMETHING to save you some money... CRAP! Now I'm wondering what the little stuff I was thinking about might cost! Good GRIEF!!!

I talked it over with a few girls from work and they said that is high way robbery!!! All she did was copy real flowers from the internet...I will look for them...and traced them then combined then in a diagonal line of 4 flowers and will trace them onto me....

Turtleheadfred

Uh YEAH! I agree if it wasn't even HER original design!

If you found the flowers before - you can find them again and like you said - recreate something yourself. Any reputable tattoo artist can take your rendition and make something from it that you'll like.

"YES" artists like to create - but you've already got a pretty clear sense of what you WANT - and that's the name of the game... making something beautiful the "customer" wants forever!

Good for you Heather!

Have you ever priced out tattoos before? Any reputable establishment will do a relatively simple tattoo starting around $75. Mine was $150 but it should have been more (somewhere around $300 from what the artist said) but they had already quoted me $125 based on the initial idea meeting with the receoptionist.

The pricing is based on several factors: amount of colors used, size and detail required (to name a few).

True there are many people that can draw a good sketch, however, there are a lot fewer people who can turn that sketch into permanent art on your back.

My suggestion: see if you can do it in stages as the money is available. Maybe say a flower & vine at a time.

I got my second tat done the other night. Here is a pic from the next day:

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o141/rdy2rac/7469062e.jpg?t=1218326329

This is the tat I am getting with my sister. She was going to get hers done the same night but we ran out of time. So she will get hers when she comes back home from texas.

It is a sun and moon. Inside is the astronomical equivalent to our zodiac signs. In the orange is the symbol for Saturn (representing capricorn/her), the other symbol is for a star (representing gemini/me).

As usual, it looks even better today as the extra ink bleeds away & the colors start to settle & pop.

I would be curious to see the artist's portfolio because if she could really make 4 flowers look realistic with the amount of color/detail they deserve then I could see $700 ... but if they are cartoonish and not shaded worth a crap or look like flash, then that is ridiculously high. I would also think something more like $300 would be more suitable given what you've described. But if it is like Kat Von D quality then yeah I could see $700 lol! I think Kat Von D is $1000 just to sit in her chair and get a very small portrait done.

You could rough sketch / paste together images in the way you want them and take it to several places to get prices to get an idea of really what the right price for something like that in your area is. It is such a regional thing!

My eyeliner was RIDICULOUS ... but well worth every $1 for something around my eyes. :) I went to the Kat Von D of cosmetic tatoo artists, she has done lots of celebrities and is the regular CNN/newsnetwork artist ... but I don't regret what I spent one bit after I've seen the crap eyeliner jobs people get at salons.

I still haven't gotten my tattoo yet. I am using it as a reward for weight loss. I won't get it until I lose my goal amount. I still love the one I posted with the butterflies. I also love the 3 stars...maybe the 3 stars will be my mini reward....
