Kitchen Cabinet Doors...HELP

So what would you guys do or say?

Here's how my day has gone...

We're in the middle of remodeling the kitchen. We never intended to get new cabinet doors - were just going to "refresh" them by routing the old ones or something along with the new paint.

My neighbor's brother works in a cabinet shop and recently did new cabinet doors for her. He asked if I would like new cabinet doors FOR FREE? My answer: HECK YES - IF they're free! I can't afford new doors - but free I can do!

So I've been waiting - told him to absolutely take his time because we have PLENTY to be doing elsewhere. So tonight I went over to play with the grandbabies and find out my kitchen doors are here (there). But guess what?

They're NOT FREE! Apparently, he wasn't "supposed" to be doing the doors, and his boss "caught" him - so he had to pay for them. So here we are... I have no idea what these doors are going to cost me - and I CAN'T afford new doors - but they were cut exactly for my kitchen. WTF?!?

I feel that I have no choice but to pay for them - but with what? We had intended to just pay him for his time... :cry:

Wow - that is crazy!! I don't even know what to say. I would be so upset. You should not have to pay for something that you did not agree to pay for. If you want the cabinets, maybe you can work something out where you pay him back with some work (don't you do landscaping?) instead of money?? I have no clue, just a random idea. Good luck!

Well life is better now!

Thankfully - hubby came home for a sec for dinner and went to look at the doors. (They ARE beautiful and solid wood!) Turns out, we only have to pay for the cost of materials - which is only $200!

That's pretty darn good for 19 cabinet doors and 10 drawer front! PLUS hidden hinges!!! YEAH!!!

Thank the Lord it wasn't any worse than that!!!

I would of freaked out!!! I want new cabinets and have to have them this summer. I have to wait until its warmer because we have to gut the kitchen and when I checked the temp. this morning it is a brisk 21 degrees and it is snowing....I thought it was spring?:cry::blah:

You know what's bad? I'm not sure if I have any REAL "before" pics!

We redid the kitchen a year ago - and here we are (less than a year later) doing it again! We decided we needed to knock out a wall - and that we didn't like the laminate wood floor... so here we are! It's ACTUALLY beginning to look like an actual "kitchen" again - but I don't think I'll EVER get all the dust out of the house!!!

And we still need to do the lliving room which is right next to it!!! I swear - it just NEVER ends... at least not for us...:blah:
