I decided to start a weight loss/recipe collecting/tips/ Journal all relating to my South Beach Diet Plan. So if any of you have tried SB(and I know some of you have ;)) and have recipes or tips you would like to share please do. If you have any advice that would help that would be awesome. Today is day 2. So far so good. I don't miss the bread or pasta as much as I thought I would but I do miss the fruit as I was cutting up watermelon for my sons. But I will be strong and get thru my phase 1.

Yesterdays menu:

Breakfast: 2 eggs
2 sausages links
2 pieces of bacon
water w/lemon wedge (can't give that up...makes me drink water)

Snack 1: 2 tbs. nat. PB and a nonfat yogurt

Lunch: skipped...had a stupid migraine:o

Snack 2: 1 tsp nat. PB (love that stuff)

Dinner: 3 slices of low sodium turkey,3 slices of low sodium ham, 2 string cheeses

Any advice as to what I should add? The migraine through me off though. I had a spinach salad I wanted to have for lunch but just couldn't eat it.

I did manage to drink 48 oz. water yesterday and only 2 cups of coffee. I had to wean back.

My advice is to just make sure you are eating enough! I know when I did the SB diet, it seemed like I was hardly eating at first, but I just wasn't as hungry for some reason. However, if you don't eat enough, you WILL get hungry and feel weak and get headaches.

A favorite snack of mine was celery with laughing cow cheese. I also like(d) to eat raw veggies (grape tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, celery, broccoli, etc.) w/ dressing. You can make your own dip with sour cream and spices or just buy a low sugar ranch or blue cheese. I also ate a lot of hummus.

For breakfast, I also liked to have those veggie sausage patties or links. They are a good source of protein and filling. I also enjoyed the mini breakfast quiches from the SB book.

I made hard boiled eggs so they were available to grab when I needed a quick snack and didn't want a piece of cheese or a handful of nuts.

I also drank a glass of low-sodium V8 every day.

Don't bother buying the "South Beach Diet" ready snacks or foods. They are not good.

That's about it for now. Just make sure you are eating enough. 3 meals and 2 or 3 snacks....which ends up being like 5-6 mini meals a day, although dinner (or lunch) should/could be big. It is so easy to make a protein (fish, poultry or meat) with a big side of veggies and even a salad.

Good luck!

Thanks C. I weighed in and lost 1 1/2 pounds this week. I do feel a little week and my blood sugar went too low and I felt like I could pass out so I did end up making a turkey sandwich on wheat bread. but I may just move to phase 2. Its a little less strict and the weight will come off slower but I can't make this lifestyle. Its too restrictive.

I'm glad you listened to your body!! I agree it is very restrictive and honestly, if you skip straight to phase 2 and keep exercising, I bet you will lose the weight just as quickly. Maybe instead of having a carb/fruit at every meal (like you can in phase 2), you can limit it to one serving of each a day for a week and see how that goes.
