I bought some fruit at a grocery store as well as some bagels and since them I have had fruit flies. Anyone know a way to get rid of them. I don't really want to spray because of my kids and pets. Any natural type things would be awesome.

I don't know about fruit flies, but to get rid of these flies that fly around your plants I've used garlic, they just hate it, maybe putting a clove of garlic with your fruit will make them go away.

Thanks Maria...I have tons of garlic so I will give it a try. We are trying to eat more fruit but those little flies are making it impossible.:thumbdown

Do you know where the fruit flies are coming from? We used to have them live in our plants. Are you plants very wet? They like the dampness. One thing to do is to let your plants dry out a bit and spray them down with a mixture of soap and water.

Umm yes I agree with Nico. For me it sounds like they don't come from the fruit. Sometimes if fruit is too ripe you have these fruit flies but once you get rid of it they go away, so maybe the problem is somewhere else.
Maybe if you put the ripe fruit in the fridge it will help...

I just read somewhere that to get rid of fruit flies, place a bowl of undiluted vinegar close to where they are swarming. That is supposed to get rid of them.

We had them in the salon and you'll never guess what they love to drink but sorry for them they die....nail polish remover. I found them swarmed to the bottle. It cleared them up in no time.

They are gross here too. When they get bad I set a trap-- a wine glass, with a little wine in it, covered with saran wrap, and then poke holes in the plastic. They are attracted to the wine, and so they go for it... then can find their way in through the plastic, but can't get out. Heheh. I can think of worse ways to go!
