He asked me Tuesday night....just like I was thinking!! :) He was so sweet....he got me flowers and a wonderful card. :) Then we had a candlelit dinner....it was nice. :)
BUT.....I am already thinking how stressful things are going to be...I have gotten all these suggestions and I am welcoming them all....except his mother was going on and on about things that I really had no interest in having...this is our wedding not hers!! But I was nice and said thanks for all the advice and that we would consider all of our options later on.
All in all I am very happy and can't wait to get started!!
talk to you guys soon! :D

Congratulations Amber!! How exciting!
Enjoy every minute of your engagement. Yes, it might get stressful at times, but remember that you only get this special time once in your life. You are so right, it's your wedding, so do what YOU want to do. Tactfully thank your future MIL for her suggestions, and plan your dream wedding!

The way we did it was: we made all the big decisions before we told anyone, I suggest you try to make as many decisions when the 2 of you are alone that way noone else is there to put in their .02 until after you have heard each others opinions.
My SIL went as far as to tell my hubby (in front of his whole family) that when I asked for his opinion what I really wanted was what his mom's opinion was. I looked her dead in the face & said "No, when I ask his opinion, I want HIS opinion. If I want his mom's opinion, I'll just ask her myself." Boy was she shocked, but I'm just blunt like that.

Thanks everyone....I am going to need all the support I can. I just can't believe the stress has kicked in already!! YIKES!! Las Vegas here I come!! :D .....I don't think it will have to get to that point as long as I stand firm and be polite at the same time.
I am trying to discuss things with just him and I so when someone suggets something I may not like I can say..."Well, we already talked about that and have another idea...." I know things will be ok!!! :)

I am thinking we will have about 150....but I know not everyone will be able to attend. We are planning on just getting married at the reception hall to cut the costs of the church. I went to a wedding like that once and I really liked it.
Last night I think :) we decided on April 2004. I am going to get an exact date soon!!! It's all just soooo much to think about!!

Congratulations on your engagement!
I had a small wedding and I have lots of advice but the only piece of advice I will give you is BE FIRM, BE BLUNT and DON'T FEEL GUILTY!
I had conversations with each set of parents and basically said IIIII am the bride, IIIIII am planning my wedding, IIIII would love to hear what you have to say but IIII will make my own choices.
If you don't like it, then I don't want to hear about it, I have too many things to worry about.
Now you have to understand I planned my wedding in 23 days and gave everyone 23 days notice. So I was under the gun.
Take no prisoners!

 CONGRATULATIONS!
And good luck! I agree with Jackie... BE FIRM, BE BLOUNT, AND DON'T FEEL GUILTY!!!
This is YOUR wedding... NOT THEIRS!! It's great to get advice and help, but when it comes down to it, you do what the two of you want... if it hurts someone elses feelings, then too bad... what's their beef anyway? They get a free party and free food... and the only thing that matters is that the two of you (& the officient) show up!
Even if they pitch in on some things, it should be out of the love for you two... not so they can poke their nose in your business.
Just remember, you can't make everyone happy... but you can make the two of you happy!
Ok, off my soap box now... :D
Congrats again and good luck! I'm sure it will be wonderful!
