View Full Version : Automatic bill paying
Okay I know this was a fairly popular thread so lets get those views back on the site.
I use B-pay which means I dial a local call number select account, opt to pay bill, enter account details and bill details, and how much I want to pay, and bang it's done.
For Jase and me this is a great option, as we live in a small country town, it also means we can leave the money in our account till the last minute which means we get the interest not the phone company etc.
Does anyone use internet banking? We are thinking about it.

We are also thinking about starting to use the automatic bill pay! I"m just not sure though...I don't know if I trust it! Anybody got anything positive to say about it!

I think as time goes by, it's almost going to become necessary. Most financial dealings seem to be headed in the electronic/on-line direction. Years from now there won't be paper money. It does make sense, it's easier, faster, and more convenient. If you can handle all your banking and bill paying from your living room, you never have to stand in a line, or get frustrated dealing with rude people. Most people already have direct deposit of their paychecks, so we're already half way there.
The only problem is, how safe is your money. With cash in your pocket, you might get robbed. But if your finances depend on computers and electronics, what happens if you get hacked? Or a system crashes? After all. look what happened to WT and HT yesterday. what if that was your money, instead of your message board?
Yikes, what a thought. My grandaddy (bless his soul) used to withdraw his entire pay and then pension and keep it in his wallet. When he passed on he had nearly 10 grand in it. It shocked us when we went through his personal belongings. In todays age I don't think I'd feel very safe carring that much around with me every day, but he took that wallet with him every where.

I do all my banking online, but not bill payment just yet. I do want to, but like everyone else, I am a little nervous about it. But it does make sence that someday everything even banking will be done threw the computer.
Gee I hope I know more about computer then ;)
Me too. all I know is how to get to HT & WT

We set up our mortgage payment on automatic bill pay. It is wonderful to not have to worry about sending in the check every month.
I still get a paper check every payday, I deposit it into my savings acct...and from there I do all my banking via the phone. I leave it in my savings until I need to transfer to checking/a loan payment...whatever. My husband does the same thing...just seems to be the easiest thing for us.

Well, since I've been working for my dad's clinic again...he's very old school, not too hi-tech...I get a regular ol' check every two weeks. Then, I deposit it, and let Andrew take care of the bills and such...B/c I absolutely suck at paying the bills!

Ryan's check is automatically deposited, then he pays all but like 3 bills (rent, car payment, and zales) on the internet/over the phone. If those places offered internet/phone payments he'd do those too.

My Dh is self employed so he gets the old fashion paper check. However once itis deposited into our bank, I get right on the computer and pay bills. It is great to have your bank online, as you can pay bills for the phone etc right away and check your balance. I like the fact that I can pay a bill on a certain date in advance. I just type in the amount to be paid, click the company to be paid( eg phone) and then put in the date it is to be paid on.
However, I pay bills right when they come in.... except for the ones that come out automatically.
