Sunday is my and my hubby's 1 year anniversary (yeah!) and I had some questions for you guys. First, did anybody else freeze the top of your cake to eat on your 1 year anniversary? Ours is stuck in the freezer and I'm kind of worried that its going to be really nasty. Second, what did you guys get each other as gifts? We thought it would be neat to follow the traditions for our anniversaries, but the first anniversary gift is traditionally suppose to be paper. What the hell do you get someone that's really nice and made of paper?

Happy early Anniversary!! :toast:
We didn't save the cake so I can't help you there. As far as the gifts, check out this list (http://www.chipublib.org/008subject/005genref/giswedding.html). Apparently clocks are the modern alternative to the traditional gift of paper. You can do a watch or an engraved pocket watch.
For our first anni, I made my husband a photo album/scrap book of us through the years (by our first wedding anni we had been together 5 years)....complete with all the cards, notes, poems etc. I had ever given/written him (he had them saved in his drawer :D so I took them to put in the album)....copies of our wedding vows, one of our wedding invitations...and I left room to continue to add on to it in the years to come. It was neat b/c I hadn't even realized 1st anniversary gift is traditionally paper and meanwhile my gift to him contained all different types/textures.
He didn't follow the tradition. He took me for a fun day out. Made me breakfast, took me to a paint your own pottery place and picked out 2 giant martini glasses for us to toast eachother every year on our anniversary and then we went out for a really nice dinner.
Anyway, other paper ideas can be a photograph, a painting, a gift certificate, stationary..... nothing super exciting. LOL

I had saved our cake in my parents freezer. Everything was fine until they decided to move. I helped them move everything. I pulled out our cake & set it on the stairs so it could go in last & not get smushed. 3 days later we went back to move some more stuff & it was still sitting on the steps. DOH!

I suggest what C done.....a scrapbook of your life w/ him.
A picture, a homemade book of coupons expiring in one year. They could be naughty :eyebrow: or simple........a backrub, a quiet evening of wine and :eyebrow:, breakfast in bed, etc....
When you planned your honeymoon (if you had one) were there any pother ideas you guys had for that that you never ended up doing? Maybe one of those ideas. The paper scrapbook is really nice, kinda depends on the type of dh you have too, yk?
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!

Missy,
Happy Anniversary to you and your husband!
We actually froze a piece for our cake to each on our first anniversary. We decided to eat most of the cake top with our family and friends after the wedding but save a big piece to freeze and eat together on our 1 year anniversary.
We wrapped our cake very well and thawed it very carefully and it was just as yummy as on our wedding day. It was still moist and had no freezer burn.
My husband stuck to the traditional "paper" gift idea. I did a variation on it. My DH and I have a favorite artist name George Rodriguez. He bought me a four part lithograph set. I gave him a gift certificate for a couples day at a spa. The day included a massage for two, a facial for two and lunch. We really had a wonderful and relaxing day together!
Definitely let us know what you decide to do. Good luck!!!

Happy anniversary a little early, Missy! We saved the top of our cake, and it was fine. It wasn't that good to begin with, though. I think you've gotten some great gift ideas here. We don't do anniversary gifts, so I can't help much there.
I think Csara's ideas are GREAT! Paper gifts such as Photo's and Scrap book memories are such treasured gifts.
Happy Anniversary anyway. I hope you have fun!

Congratulations!!!
We kept our cake top and it was still pretty good... a friend of mine packed it very well, so it didn't have freezer burn. I ate on it for a couple days! It was a darn good cake!
For our first anniversary, I was trying to find a decent job, so we didn't do much.
We just had our second anni and we slept in every day and relaxed... then we got bronchitis... so we're not doing too well on the anniversaries so far.
0 for 2 ...Geez!

Well our first anniversary is coming up in 4 weeks and although we did save our cake top we won't have a chance to eat it on our anniversary b/c we are leaving on our anniversary day at 4am to get on a plane to jamaica! That is going to be our gift to each other but I am going to surprise him with a nice desk clock for his office that has something about our 1st year on it or something

We saved our cake but we moved once before the first year was up so don't know if that effected it or not but it was a little freezer burnt but we still both took a bite and it wasn't to bad.
We did simple gifts since my dh will wear shorts all year round I got him a shirt and shorts and some sandals which he still won't wear, lol. I collect winged horses so he got me the most beautiful set I love.
