Don't know where this goes but my kitchen has been overtook by these itty bitty black ants! :argh: I hate any type of crawly thing but these suckers are by the multitude and are so tiny unless you "look" for them or unless there's a bunch in one spot you don't seem to notice them.
What the 'bleep' is up with that? Anyone else have them? Anyone know of something good (that is pet and child safe) to put out or spray to get rid of these nasty creatures?

No spray is 100% safe, but we’ve always used Bengal Roach spray. It’s great for most all bugs. It sprays a fine mist. Clear off your countertops and remove any food or anything that could be exposed by the spray & spray a fine mist across the area where the ants ( most likely sugar ants) are coming in to where they are going. I would predict they’ll be dead & gone in less than 24 hours. I would also go outside and see if you see a small opening or hole in the foundation where they might be coming in & spray it & then seal it with silicon.

Krysti, I have a story JUST FOR YOU!

i moved to florida to go through my final two years of college & i was there one night, sitting peacefully at my drawing table, finishing a project. i went to take a sip of my soda, but didn't bother to LOOK at the can before i took a huge gulp. all of a sudden i felt these little tickle on my face & when i looked at the can in my hand... a billion (realistically, fifteen or so) little sugar ants were crawling all on me!!! AAGGGGHHHH

SO, ever since that moment, i've been super careful to look at the can before drinking. as far as that rest of the house, at least down here, those suckers will just walk in whenever they want. the only way is to keep all food or drinks with sugar or fruit juice either in the fridge or out of the house. my family living in illinois laughs at us for keeping the cereal in the fridge, but its just a way of life!

& this sounds insane but it works, i have a little jar lid with a bit of honey in it on the window cill(sp) & they usually just go to that & then back out the window.

good luck & look before you drink! ;) my small bit of learned-the-hard-way advice

They could be grease ants too. Clean everything and then spray. But you also need to find out where they are coming in from. Follow one outside. Then poison their home so they won't come back.

My dad owns his own pest controll business and with that you would think my house would never have a bug! Wrong! I had a terrible time with ants last year and have already seen a few in my sink in the kitchen. There is ant bait that can be put out and they can be sprayed for if you want to hire someone. I went out and bought some ant and roach spray for when I see the little suckers and my dad can't come running! :D And it works really well! I spray it down really well then a few hours later I clorox the place I sprayed to make sure I get everything up. So far they havent came back yet! Spray the doorways so that way when they try to walk over it they will die. My dad said ants are just bad this year again. Great!

Funny, I saw a little troupe of ants this morning in my kitchen... I thought maybe it is sparked by the weather change??
Anyway, I have some of those little ant bait things that I put down. I hope those suckers are gone soon!

Ok this is going to sound crazy but I swear it works! Put Cinammon on your kicthen floor or wherever they are getting in! When I first heard about it I thought everyone was crazy...but we tried it in the Kitchen at work...no more ants!!!!! In fact, I haven't seen them in two weeks!!!! Just leave it on the floor or corners for about 12 hours. :D

Veda - Not sure about dogs? Check with your vet or do a search on line. I would assume it would be safe...but I am not sure.

You can also lay out cloves, this seems to scare them away too. LOL I used to have a dog who would eat them if he saw then walking around.

I tried the cinnamon on my counter tops and it worked for the most part, but I still see the stray ant or two crawling around there. We have Terminex coming tomorrow though so hopefully they will get the whole lot of them. We also have roaches and spiders. FUN!

 Did you say roaches! I would be freakin' out and T wouldn't be able to work, I'd be calling him to come home if I saw one.

You know that is my one ick factor, they totally give me the heebie geebies. :o I once made T leave work to come home and kill a Palmetto bug, I locked myself and Nick in a room with a towel under it until he found and killed it. I am petrified of those, roaches and palmetto bugs.

:biglaugh: So you wanna come over? :biglaugh:

Yes, I said roaches....3 of them, but thankfully they were all dead. Oh gawd, I hope that doesn't mean we have live ones running around somewhere. :gag:

I think it's because it rained so much while we were away. It was raining every single day and you know that brings out the buggies in Florida.

Uh-huh, I know. Which is why we moved to PA! :biglaugh: Also new construction will bring them out, any new construction in your neighborhood?

I swear it was the weirdest thing, I lived in South Florida for 10 years, never saw a Palmetto bug up close and personal, then the last year we lived there we had 4 of them fly in, different days of course, ask T, one day he came home I was locked in the room, the next I was on the landing of our steps watching so I knew where it went so he could kill it, the third it crawled into a crack under a door in our bathroom so I emptied an entire can of Raid in the bathroom, the fourth I was up on a chair and made him come home from his job teaching. I swear I totally freak out about them.

Snakes, spiders, skeeters, ect, never bother me, but those and roaches, creep me out!

Finding them dead is a good sign I hope, the guy will be able to tell you wether you have them or not.

Yea it is crazy that we have an unlimited yearly thingie (membership??) with Terminex. We payed a certain fee upfront, they come every couple of months or something, but we can call them whenever we want to come out more often if we need it. We've definitely needed it....

oh and btw, :biglaugh: LMAO @ you, ya freak!!

We are under ant siege again this year.

Basement apartments will never be safe from ants.

I have to ge some more ant houses, sprays for me this year.

I am going to try the cinnamon trick tonight.

They end up in the cat food and I freak out!

In the book I'm in love with it says to grease the outsides of the pet dishes with vasoline. The ants can't crawl up it to get into the pet food.

Perfect idea! My female cat Monkey has been freaking out cause she sees them moving across her food, it makes me want to hurl when I wash out their wet food dish and find them.

If I don't get morning sickness that will do it for me for sure!

Thanks HeavenLeigh!
