Cupboard Love
The ginger feline sits alone and aloof,
Jealously protective of its own space
On the colourful patchwork blanket,
The squares lovingly knitted by his companion.
The elderly lady dreamily nods in her chair
Half amused, half irritated by the cat.
Suddenly Malkin rises stealthily to his feet,
Gradually insinuating his body towards his mistress.
Anguished loud meows indicate his hunger
Interspersed with soft placating purrs.
With a resigned stroking of the sleek coat,
His owner rises to fulfil her moggy’s desire,
Fully cognizant that his sudden affection is
CUPBOARD LOVE.
