I'm a bit worried about my Obi kitty. His eyes are all watery and he’s been sneezing a lot. DH doesn’t think we need to go to the vet just yet, but I didn’t think cat’s caught colds and I wonder if it’s something more serious!
Last week, Obi found a mouse in the house! He brought it to us as a present (sweet, eh?) Do you think he could have caught some sort of sickness from it??

Terianna: I'd take the poor little guy to the vet. There's something called "Upper Respiratory Distress"-- like a chestcold/pnemonia type thing I think? Its pretty common and I think they can just give kitty antibiotics for it.
If he's up- to-date on his shots, its likely nothing serious. Hey, maybe he's allergic to cat fur?:)
I would at least call the vet. They should let you know if Obi should come in. Good luck. :)

I too would call the vet. YOu would feel horrible if it is something serious( I Know I would!)... usually that stuff isn't too expensive..so hopefully it can be taken care of easily. I always feel extra sorry for them b/c they have no voice!
I'm always so happy to hear about people who love their animals. I'm sure you are a VERY loving pet owner, Jen!! :inlove: I'm such a crazy activist when it comes to animals- I donate way too much money to the humane society and I'm always on a mission to do something for local shelters. I'm a big time animal lover. :) :cat: :dog: I wish more people would take part in helping our poor little furry friends.

I think I would at least give them a call.....

I'm like Dana, I call the vet for every sneeze or anything! My vet probably worries what I'll be like when I have children. Tearianna, I would call the vet too, but don't be too worried. When we adopted our kitten, Harley, she was sneezing all the time when we brought her home. I took her to the vet and they said it wasn't anything serious, just a bug she caught at the shelter. I didn't even have to put her on antiobotics, she just got over it naturally. So I would just call and talk to the vet, they may just want you to watch and make sure she's eating and drinking normally and wait for the bug to pass. I hope its nothing serious.

Thanks, girls! You give good advice :D
I called ALL :biglaugh: the local vets today (more than 1 opinion ... just to be on the safe side), and they all agreed that cats can actually get colds and allergies and stuff. They said just to monitor him, and as long as he keeps eating (definitely no problem there) and the watering in his eyes doesn't turn any strange color, then he should recover on his own!
Poor kitty ... I think I'll get him some treats today!

aww, good idea. treats ALWAYS make phoebe happy!! When we leave for the weekend to visit family, I always leave her treats all over the house to find as surprises. On her little seat in the living room, by her food bowl, by her "spot" by the sliding glass window in the kitchen.........She is very loved to say the least!!
I'm glad Obi will be ok!! Keep us updated. :cat:

Same thing happened to my kitty, Peepers, in the winter. I too called the vet and got the same response - allergies! Peepers still has his sneezing fits, but the vet said as long as he's eating/drinking, then it's probably just allergies or a cold. Since Austin is the allergy capital of the world, I figure Peepers probably is a little allergic to something.

One of the receptionists suggested that Obi might be allergic to cat hair. I do hope she was joking :biglaugh:

Thanks for asking, M :D
He's still sneezing ... but it hasn't stopped him from filling his belly with the treats I brought home last night ;)
Actually, I think he's living it up. I feel so bad for him, so he's getting lots of lap time. He and his sister are always fighting for attention from us, so I think he's really enjoying the extra cuddle and petting time he gets whenever he sneezes!
