privacy fencing & home security systems

Anyone have privacy fencing here? What kind is it (foliage, metal, iron, wood, stone??) & did you have it installed or was it there when you moved in? How does it look for it's age? We are checking out our options & need feedback. We like wood, but have heard that it gets stained & mildews easily... I love stone but oz is concerned about the costs, We've seen many, many bush "fences" but honestly they look like alot of maintenance & they take a good three feet of yard space all around the perimeter... what do you say?

Also with a security system. What company do you use & do you like yours?

We have a wood fence - all the houses in our neighborhood have the same fence. I love the privacy that it provides.
We've only been in our house about 2 1/2 years and the fence has weathered. Dh borrowed my Dad's powerwasher in the spring to clean it and he managed to get all of the grayness off. We also stained one side of the fence, which looks awesome and lasts about 6 years.
If you are going with wood, I'd definitely recommend doing a stain.
We have an alarm system as well. We set it every night and pretty much every time we leave our house. I can't remember the system that we use :o , but I'll post later.
I honestly do feel safer knowing that we have the alarm.

We have a wood fence in the backyard that was there when we moved in. The back wall is also lined with really tall palm trees which we need to prune in a BIG WAY. Um, I'd say the wood fence does get rusty in a few spots, but you can easily upkeep it with paint (rustfree outdoor paint) which we haven't done. As for security system, we use Guardian. They're fine. I don't really know too much about any other company except ADT which is fine too. Again, there was already a guardian system installed when we moved in so we didn't change it.

My dad uses ADT, we really have never had the use for them so we don't know how good they are. :biglaugh: People around here can leave their doors open without fear, not that we do. As for a fence we have partial stone wall which was here when they bought the house, and that farm looking fencing, with the three tiers, not really a privacy fence, more like a decorative fence, been here over ten years and so far so good. :D

The only form of security that we have is Jesse the barking dog. He lets me know when the mail lady is here.
We really don't need security in this area. And no fences either, our neighbors aren't that close.
