I am unsure if I should offer to throw a baby shower for my sister in law for the following reasons: 1 - I have a very limited budget and 2 - I have a very small home. She has a large group of friends and a large family group to invite, as well. However, I am afraid that I would not be fulfilling my duty as a new sister-in-law if I do not offer to throw her shower. Please help?

Well, I for one have never seen the guide book that says your duty as a sister-in-law is to throw a baby shower. ;) It is very nice of you to want to do that, but by no means your obligation. Why not speak to some of her close friends and/or other family members and work on it together? That way you are involved, but not solely responsible for everything. All of the showers I have been to have numerous hostesses, it has never been just one person.

I agree w/ C. Ask for help. Every shower I have been to..... Someone is always in charge of games. Someone brings the drinks. Someone is in charge of having the cake made and EVERYONE brings a dish. Maybe that's just cause I'm from the South.....and we love to eat :lick:

If my MIL hadn't been the one throwing my SIL's (her other son's wife) shower I probably wouldn't have had any part in it other than attending. Even then I only helped with the manual labor (setting up tables, decorations, helping make gifts). I never spent a dime just helped out once everything was set.

I agree with all of the above. Also, do you or they attend a church or a school that might have a room you could use for free? Friends of ours had their shower at their church and had room to spare for everyone and everything. :)
