A lil girl kitten followed my son home from the bus today  and he wants to keep it. It's dirty and has the pink eye *bad* and is hungry. I have no cat food or lunch meat. What can I give the kitty to eat? Is it okay to give them milk to drink?

Can I get something OTC for it's pink eye? I am flat broke and can't afford to take it to the vet.

Krysti definitely give her some water. A little milk is ok too. Do you have any canned tuna? If so, give her a little of that as well. Even cottage cheese is ok, but make sure anything you give her is very plain otherwise it may upset her little belly. I would also suggest giving your vet a call and ask him/her what you can do for the pink eye. They shouldn't charge for a phone consultation. Do you know what you are going to do with the kitty? Are you going to keep her? If not, please try to find her a good home or bring her to a shelter. Don't let the little baby go out on her own ok??? ;)

Our cats would get diarrhea if we gave them any milk other then skim... do you have eggs? ours loved egg yellows

i think the local animal shelter here has low-cost vet care... maybe yours does too? good luck & good for you K, saving a little sick kitty! :)

Just a warning, too much milk can give cats/kittens worms. There is a milk substitute by Whiskas (found in the catfood isle in a purple juice/drink box-like container). It's only a dollar or so, and it will last you a few servings. Doesn't need to be given everyday, but my cat loved it when she was little. As for cost of medication, ask a vet and/or shelter if they can recommend somewhere that may supply low cost meds. You could try calling around to different places; if you tell them your story, someone may offer to help you and kitty out of the goodness of their hearts.:cat::heart:

Definitely give that little kitty some water, I'd hold back on the milk. Call your local ASPA and tell them your situation, if you want to keep the kitty and you can't afford treatment they may treat her free. Its worth a shot.

kitty could eat torn up bread, oatmeal (cooked but COOLED so that it is room temp or cooler), rice... anything bland and cooled to room temp or cooler.

You may want to just get a soft damp washcloth and try to gently wipe her little eyes.

I'd definitely try to get her into a low cost vet. And I'm with C, keep that little baby inside or bring her to a shelter.

Thanks gurlies. I have "princess" out on the porch *it's covered* in a big box. She has water and the only thing I could find for her to eat is crushed up dog food  she ate it tho ;)
Darek really wants to keep her, I guess I do too in a way. No matter what I'll make sure she has a good home to go to. She's adorable! I'd say she's about 4months old. White and grey. Very friendly and follows Darek's every step.
I introduced her to Lexi. They didn't seem to mind one another so that's a good thing.
I'll look for a low cost vet or have my friend that works at the vets office talk him into just letting me buy some eyedrops w/out having to make an office visit.

So nice to hear you are trying to help her and feed her. I also suggest you call the vet and ask for the best way to help her eye. Is it matted shut? That is common in little kitty cats. We always gently cleaned it with a warm, wet wash cloth too - but I think my mom had medicine for her last one as well. Be careful- call the vet and see what they can do to help over the phone. I wish you the best of luck!! Bless you for helping the little thing! :inlove:

:) I have fallen in love with the little meowing thing. She is so loving and affectionate. Probably the most loving kitty I have met. Her eye was matted shut today so I have been cleaning it with a wet cloth. I looked in the kitty section of Wal-mart with no luck in finding some sort of eye drops so I went to work and filled a syringe full of saline and have been rinsing her eye with that. She doesn't seem to mind. I think she knows I'm trying to help her. I also bought her some kitten food. She ate like there was no tomorrow and is sleeping soundly in her box on the porch. :)

I did some looking online and from what I can tell, she may need to go to a vet for antibiotics for that eye. I'd watch it for a few days and if it doesn't really improve with your cleanings, I'd take her in.

She sounds adorable!
