Does anyone give their cat(s) a bath, or have them bathed? Just wondering this cause my cat seems so dirty, like dirt literaly comes out of his fur. What can I do about this?

If my kitties get particularly weird, I bathe them. Shadow kitty, the long haired cat gets some skin flakes sometimes and sometimes she gets really oily. She seems to hover back and forth between the two with very little in between.

Anyway, when Shadow gets weird enough that I can't stand it, I climb in the bath tub with her and give her a quick scrub. She hates it, but she stays fluffy for a week or more after that. I think the main thing is to wrap em up in a towel for a few minutes after you bathe them and if your house is cold, keep them shut in a warmer room until they are partially dry to prevent colds.

My kitties forgive me after an hour or so. ;)

I use a dry bath....it's a natural foam that I got from petsmart that I massage onto kitty's fur, let dry and comb out. She smells delicious after it and doesn't mind at all. ;)

I was thinking about giving him a bath, but can't imagine surviving the ordeal w/out being all scratched up! I'm going to have to go to PetSmart and look for that dry bath. Thanks, C!

My daughter and I give out cat a bath. My hubby is very allergic to cat dander, to keep the house pleasant for him we give Cujo a bath once a month. It takes two people to do it, one to hold the cat and the other to wash and rinse. I've found that as long as we hold him by the scruff of the neck he is ok. He doesn't willingly jump in the tub but we also don't get scratched up horribly either, but then he's really good about not scratching. Biting is a different story but even when he plays rough his claws are in.

I think if you socialize a cat to baths they can do just fine. I begin by offering cut up pieces of meat each time I pet them with a wet hand. Over time, I increase the wetness. I will also feed them the meat in the bathroom just when the water is running or when the blow-dryer is running. Over time you get a cat that is totally well mannered during a bath. I can't say they like baths, but they certainly don't scratch me when I bathe and dry them with a dryer. Afterwards, though, they are particularly affectionate.

Good Luck,

Jason and I bathe Tigger. He does not care for it at all but both Jason and my brother who lives with us are allergic so we have to do it. He usually forgives me in about an hour.

I'll have to see if the stuff from petsmart works on Tigger thanks for mentioning it Csara :D
