So what cookies will be making it to your holiday table, or gift tins? Any favorite recipes to share? :D

I will be making:
sugar cookies with icing
soda cracker cookies (family fave -- they are a brown sugar/butter/chocolate cookie)
maybe fudge
truffles -- I started doing this last year and I am going to make it my tradition
I also want to find a recipe for a cookie that my grandma used to make. They were a peanut butter cookie (but not to peanut buttery) with a hershey's kiss on top.

My mom used to make those peanut butter cookies with the Kiss on top. I loved them.
What recipe do you use for Truffles? The one I use calls for whipped cream and chocolate chips. I love them, kids aren't crazy about them, but then my kids are a little strange...they don't care for sweet stuff too much.

My kids aren't into sweets much either. They like their cottage cheese and Wheaties! They sure don't get that from me! I'd be 50 pounds lighter if I ate like them!:p
I make an awesome "diaper" cookie. It has chopped walnuts and other great fattening stuff. I'd gladly share the recipe if you're interested. It's a lot of work and takes some time. But it is sooooo worth it!
The other kind of cookie I make is a yummy SUGAR COOKIE recipe. It's been handed down by generations. But I love it, as I don't have to roll it out and make cookie shapes. You can use cookie cutters if you wish, but I"m a seasoned mother and don't want to bother with that! I just blop teaspoonfuls on the cookie sheet! They are still tasty! And the kids don't care! They still love to decorate them by spreading on their favorite frosting and decorate them with sprinkles.
Let me know if you want these recipes, I'll gladly share!

Mini cheese cakes (made in muffin tins) are my newest 'tradition'-- a nice change. I do one batch chocolate, and one vanilla and a few swirled. Super easy and decadent at the same time. And since you don't need much sugar in them, the diabetics can eat 'em.
I also love candy cane shortbread cookies. And they are really nice if you drizzle/dip half them in white and/or dark chocolate.
And I confess I watched Martha Stewart the other day and she made cut-out cookies where you cut out the centre of the cookie and melt candies in the middle, like stained glass sort of. Very pretty. If I get my act together this year I'm going to try them too.

Hi ladies. I'm new here online. Looking for an old recipe that I lost many years ago and would like to try again. It used cream cheese and they were delicious and not too very sweet like choc.chip cookies. Of course I love them too! They were called cherry winks and had pieces of maraschino cherries on top. Not rolled cookies or pressed. Hope someone can help me find it. I did find someone's name that was on your site but the note was dated 2000 and she was looking too and was going to ask her sister and then maybe post the recipe. Also looking for an almond crescent cookie for my sister that is not rolled. Thanks much for any help you can give me. Made my mom's recipe for sticky buns Sunday. I gained 3 lbs. just smelling and testing on Sunday.

We're doing cut out sugar cookies and maybe gingerbread, the girls want them, never tasted them, but Rayanne wants to make them. I'm also making Alton Browns thin chocolate chip cookies, we like em' crunchy, Martha Stewarts coconut snowballs, incredibly easy peanut butter cookies, and I'm hunting for others. I love baking cookies! :D
Hi Loretta and welcome, the only recipe for cherry winks I can come up with also contain dates and nuts, could that be them? They are topped with the cherry also.
Meliz, do you have a recipe for the mini cheesecakes, my stepdaughter will be with us this Christmas and is diabetic as well as my stepmother, I'd love for them to have a nibble on something not to sugary. ;)
D, I make these, I love peanut butter, so I don't know if they are too peanut-buttery or not, but you can give them a try:
Peanut Blossoms
Use any one of these three easy ways to make this popular cookie - from scratch or using refrigerated peanut butter cookie dough or a packaged peanut butter cookie mix.
1 bag (8 oz.) HERSHEY'S KISSES brand chocolates
1/2 cup shortening
3/4 cup REESE'S creamy or crunchy peanut butter
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
1 egg
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
Granulated sugar
Directions:
1. Heat oven to 350°F. Remove wrappers from HERSHEY'S KISSES brand chocolates.
2. Beat shortening and REESE'S peanut butter in large bowl until well blended. Add 1/3 cup granulated sugar and brown sugar; beat until fluffy. Add egg, milk and vanilla; beat well. Stir together flour, baking soda and salt; gradually beat into peanut butter mixture.
3. Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Roll in granulated sugar; place on ungreased cookie sheet.
4. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Immediately press a HERSHEY'S KISS brand chocolate into center of each cookie; cookie will crack around edges. Remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely. About 4 dozen cookies

Well I haven't tried making cookies since we got a new (accurate) oven, but I made some in my apartment and they always turn out horrible (even place and bake ones) so I think I'll stick to cheese cakes, those always turn out great for me.

Thanks, but no, they aren't the ones. The ones I made were very simple to make and didn't have any other fruits or nuts or were not rolled in corn flakes. The lady that was talking about them before was ksix. She said she had made them before but didn't have recipe and was going to ask her sister if she had it. I was hoping she had found it and posted it. But I am going to try some of these other recipes on here. Getting fatter just reading about them.
The only cookies/candy I'm doing this year are these:
Dipped Oreo Cookie/Candy
1pound Oreo Cookies (ground fine)
Add 8oz. Cream Cheese and cream by hand
Make into small balls.
Melt together - 6 squares white almond bark and 1/2 Tablespoon of shortening.
Dip balls into almond bark and shortening.
Drizzle over balls: 1 to 2 squares of melted chocolate almond bark.
I could eat my weight in these!! :lick:

I got the recipe that you were asking about from my mom. Our family calls these cookies Peanut Blossoms and my mom uses Chocolate Stars instead of kisses because she thinks they look more Christmasy. Anyway here is the recipe.
They are called Peanut Blossoms The recipie follows.
1cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/2cup crisco
1cup creamy peanut butter
2 eggs
1/4cup milk
2tsp vanilla
3 1/2 cups flour
2tspbaking soda
1tsp salt
2 - 10 oz.pkg of kisses or stars
stir together all except the stars. Roll into balls , dip in sugar, bake at 375 degrees for about 8 min. Immediately press star on top and let cool.

Thank you so much Dakotah_skye! Yay, I get to make my favorite cookies! I think I'll use the chocolate stars this year too.
Here's the truffles recipe I use:
Chocolate Truffles
makes about 5 dozen
28 ounces semisweet chocolate, finely chopped
3/4 cup heavy cream
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
1 1/2 tablespoons liqueur, such as Cognac, Grand Marnier, or Poire William (optional)
Best-quality cocoa powder
1. Make the ganache: Place 16 ounces of chocolate and the cream in the top of a double boiler or a heatproof bowl set over a pan of simmering water. Stir until melted; remove from heat. Add butter and Cognac, and stir until combined.
2. Pour mixture into an 8-inch square baking dish. Cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate until mixture is very cold and set but still pliable, about 2 hours.
3. Melt remaining 12 ounces chocolate in the top of a double boiler or in a heatproof bowl set over a pan of simmering water. Stir until melted; remove from heat. Let cool to room temperature.
4. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper; set aside. Using a 1/4-ounce ice-cream scoop, drop ganache onto one of the prepared baking sheets. Chill 10 minutes.
5. Coat the palm of one of your hands with about 1 tablespoon of the melted chocolate. Roll balls, one at a time, between your palms until evenly coated with chocolate (when I do this I just gently dip the balls into the choclate and let the excess drip off. Roll in cocoa powder to coat. Transfer to second baking sheet. Repeat with remaining balls, coating your palm with more chocolate as needed. Chill until ready to serve. Truffles can be stored, refrigerated in an airtight container, for up to 2 weeks.

:lick: Since I won't be working this holiday season I think I'll make some cookies and fudge to boot! Might as well I have gained over 10lbs since I have been off work
Truffles and peanut blossoms have been added to my list. :lick: they sound awesome. My mom always gets this frozen dough around Christmastime and it is wonderful. I think the name of it is Ranger cookies. I'll try to find a recipe and post it. Everyone loves 'em.
