Help, I feel like I'm the mother of a new baby.

I have a 16 year old Hymalyan who during the past year has started crying at night. At first I thought he was hungry so I made sure he was watered and fed well at night (you know like you would a baby). If we sleep in any time after our usual awakening time (i.e. I get up for work at 6:30), and on the weekends sleep later, he is so annoying. I've tried locking him in the bathroom when he's whinny.....anything to try and get more sleep. He seems to want attention.

I haven't taken him to the vet because basically he seems healthy.

Any thoughts?? (What I could really use are cat sleeping pills!!)

I think what happens as they get older, they get disoriented and are crying out for your reassurance. Maybe instead of locking him in the bathroom when he cries, pick him up and put him in bed with you. He'll probably go right back to sleep as long as he's cuddled up next to you. My parents' cat used to do the same and on rare occasion mine does as well. I always just pick her up and put her in bed with us and she's fine. She goes right back to sleep and purrs her little heart out. ;) Good luck! I hope your little guy is ok and lets you get some sleep.

Thanks for the thought....I have tried putting him in bed with me.....he only stays a few minutes and then leaves! I will give that another try though.
