Meet my pets and me & hubby (http://home.comcast.net/~nikki.stevenson/)

My kitty Belle is very odd - high pitched noises make her even odder. When we whistle (a higher pitched whistle) she will come running through the house and jump into your lap, sniff your face really good, give you a lick on the forehead, and then when you start petting her, she acts like its the best thing in the world! She goes overboard on the affection when this happens - if we stop petting her, she will bite your arm or hand, and continue to pester you until you start petting her again. Then all of a sudden she stops, jumps down, and won't come near us. Sometimes she only sits with us for a minute or two, other times it can be up to a half hour. Belle is very much the normal cat otherwise - doesn't sit in your lap, only wants you to pet her and NO! picking her up, if she wants attention she will sit by you, but not on you... very independent.

Well, we have this little squeaky ball for the dog, and we have just found out this squeaky noise is even more effective on her than a whistle - she flys! through the house to get to that noise, and she becomes very vocal while insisting that you pet her and rub her and love on her. She will bite your hand, HARD, if you stop petting her for even a second. And if we use the ball, she will stick around for up to an hour after the end of the squeaking. She actually fell asleep on my lap the other night - I've had her for five years, and she has NEVER fallen asleep on my lap before, or anyone else's for that matter.

So a couple of days ago I couldn't find the ball, and so I said "squeak squeak" in a really high pitched voice - and you guessed it - she came running! She became vocal and lovey, just like with the ball and whistle.

Has anyone else ever seen this happen with a cat? I've had cats all my life, and this is the first time I have seen it - its very odd. When we whistle, its almost like she comes to check on you, to make sure your ok - the sniffing of the face and the lick on the forehead - but with the ball she doesn't do that. I want to look this up - but what do I look up? LOL So, anyone else ever seen this?

as a side note - Belle has had kidney disease (colangiohepatitis) twice; once the summer of '92, where the vet recommended we put her to sleep, but we decided to fight cause we love her so much (and it worked!), and she had it again just this past October, but she didn't get nearly as sick this time, because we knew what we were looking for. Well, after this second fight, she has become a lot more lovable - almost like she knows we fight for her, and she is saying thanks or something. Its so sweet!
