Security Systems?

How many of you have Security Systems in your house? Who do you use to monitor them?

We are thinking about having one installed and are just looking for opinions....

We have a security system in our house from a previous owner, but it is not activated because it's an ATD. DH used to work for them and after seeing how their monitoring really works he has no faith.

My bro and his wife have one... they love it. They have it less cause of fear of break ins, and more so that they can tell if/when their two little kids make a break for it (the thing screams "Beep-Back-Door-Open." They've accidently tripped it a couple of times (which is embarassing and I guess eventually it will cost them money every time the cops show)... but they've gotten used to it and love it.

We have ADT in our house. I like it...it gives me peace of mind when dh is out of town. We have had the system for about a year now and have had 2 incidents where the police/fire dept was called out...

The first was last Thanksgiving morning when the turkey juices overflowed into the oven causing it to smoke up and set the fire alarm off. Within minutes the fire dept was at our house...it was 6:30 in the morning. The second was about a month ago when our front door wasn't closed all the way and the wind blew it open and set the alarm off. The cops were there immediately.

We pay $30 a month and we have the burglar alarm, smoke alarm and motion detector. I definatly think it's worth it.

The man that we talked to about them just had one installed at his parents house b/c his father has alzhimers (sp?) and they don't have it monitored either. They wanted it for the "beep beep" when the doors are opened to know if he wanders out of the house. He has the same system at his house and said that it is hooked up to his smoke detectors too, so if the house catches fire, it immediately calls 911. I really have a fear of someone breaking in (I don't know why, we live in a perfectly safe area). We are still kicking it around.....
