I would never declaw my cat!! The poor babies they have to walk on their paws to do anything!! It would be like you cutting off your fingar tips to the first joint to get rid of your nail. The vet does not let you see them for two days because of how much pain they are in!!! :(

Unfortunately, everyone is not so well educated in this matter, that is why I suggested the expertise of this article!;)

Thanks for sharing! I had indoor cats years ago that I had declawed because they were ruining my furniture. However, I was never able to let them outside, for the simple fact that they would never be able to defend themselves without their front claws. I regretted it after I did it.
I now have an indoor/outdoor cat. In the winter when she's mostly indoors, I trim her nails. But in the warmer months, she keeps them ground down herself, climbing trees and romping around outside. She's an awesome mouser. Catches mice, chipmunks, moles. Yes, she has her shots and is very healthy. And quite the happy little kitty! I'll never de-claw again.

But today, most people cannot leave their cats out-of-doors due to their living circumstances, this article at The Whole Cat Journal goes into detail of WHY cats NEED claws- indoor and outdoor, and why defense is only one of a list of reasons NOT to delaw.

Unfortunately, veterinarians are not giving the full facts on this barbarious procedure, and often these poor animals end up either into a shelter or euthanized because of problems that often follow. Their reward for an extremely painful surgery!
This article is informative, inteligent and very helpful as well, answering many questions a new or novice owner may have. Pass the link on to friends and family who own, or are thinking of sharing their lives with one of these fabulous creatures!:)
