I use that Advantix on my dogs and the Vets swear by it. But it's causing my little one to scratch like crazy! The Vet said..."Oh my little one does that too." I'm starring at her like..."And you don't care?!" I feel so bad for Magenta. And my Harley doesn't like the stuff either. His skin is really irritated lately. I used to use the Advantage but it didn't kill ticks. Here in Texas, it seems that ticks are becoming a real problem. I went to a site and it said that you can place the butt of a lit match to the tick area but umm, I don't know about anyone else, but i'm NOT going to place a hot burning match anywhere near my pets skin!

I won't use that shampoo in the grocery stores. I think it's Sergants and Harts. Something like that. I had a Vet tell me once that those products are terrible for cats and dogs.

Anyone have any advice on a better product?

1st....can I ask what that previous post was about....may be an inside joke...but it just seems kinda caddy..

2nd-- I just Frontline Plus on Maggie and it kills fleas AND ticks. I order it online at Drs. Foster and Smith (www.drsfostersmith.com) I really like it and it seems to work (I haven't found one flea or tick on her yet!)

As for the itching...we had maggie on baby benadryl for a while because she was alergic to the flea bites when she was little and before we found out about Frontline and Advantage....that seemed to help her itching tremendously!

I just use a flea shampoo on Winston. I can't remember the name right now but I'll check when i get home.

We never really had an issue with fleas &/or ticks but flies were another story. Winston used to get horrible fly bites on his ears & poor puppy has such a hard time reaching his ears as it is. We ended up finding a fly off spray that you just mist the pet with. it has been marvelous for our baby. He hasn't had a problem since.

No, it's not an inside joke. I don't know that person. Anyway, thanks for the advice monkeygirl38, i'll try the Frontline. The reason I was using the Advantix, (which I neglected to add before,) was because it also killed masquitos (sp) . I haven't been able to find anything else that takes care of all three of those at once.
