I'm into decorating/painting/and now landscaping. I think it's where I've been home too long and am going freakin' nuts! But I have a slim budget right now but want some cute and inexpensive landscaping/flower bed tips.
One more thing......I had some oil (heating/cooling) tanks in the back yard.......They were took out before winter and now I have a big muddy mess. When is the best time to sow grass seed?
My yard is okay, it's big but the grass isn't very lush. Probably due to Ky's sucky weather. 200degrees one minute and snowing the next (not that dramatic but you get the point) what can I do to make it more lush and full (there are a few "bald" spots here and there). Can I throw seed in the yard? Fertilize?

Sorry Heaven, I know NOTHING about lawns, maybe google search it, or try the garden web. :D

We had some bald/dead spots when we first moved into our house. My husband put down a few pallets of grass (San Augustine) over it and they attached quick. Also, well for Texas, it's time to weed & feed, so you might want to give that a whirl as well.
My husband is in charge of the grass... I'm in charge of flowers... so hopefully that helps a little.

we used seed to grow grass in our backyard and it worked just great. I wouldn't just 'throw' grass seed out there, I'd get a hand-held spreader so that is put down evenly. You have to water it 'til it's soaked for about 2 weeks too. If you think that you will get another frost, wait to plant the seed.
As far as flowers, impatiens grow really well and aren't expensive. Hanging baskets are nice too. Also, you can plant some herbs - I did basil last year and it turned into a basil bush! IT looks pretty, smells great and is usable.

Thanks gals! I'm glad I haven't started on my planting/sowing yet. This ever-so-lovely 70degree weather is turning into 30 again :vent:
I have found a few things here and there for the yard. A cheap but pretty flower bed thingy that looks like a white picket fence. I will look into impatiens......I am so not good at growing things! I have also found a few hanging baskets I would like to have.
 about planting herbs.......the first thing that popped into my redneck mind was :smoking: not a legal one :D
seriously, I think I would like some herb bushes. Fresh herbs around here are unheard of. I think it's a great idea.
