Does anyone use a HEPA air filter or any other type of air purifier? Do they actually work? Is it worth it?

C, I use a Holmes Air Purifier. I think it works. I keep it in my living room and keep it running during the day. Ever since I bought the purifier and a vacuum with the HEPA filter I find that my sinuses don't bother me as much.

Funny you should mention this... listened to a call-in about air quality the other day (I know, it was a rather pathetic way to spend an hour:)) ... the "expert" said that they really do work, especially re: pet dander and for people with pet allergies. But he also cautioned that their ability to cut down on other allergens was far less significant.

We've had an Ionic Breeze from Sharper Image for two years now and it definitely works. I don't remember the brand, but before that we had a purifier with a HEPA and it was good too, but over time the expense of replacing the filters really does add up. We also had a lot of trouble finding the filters and ordering them took weeks, not to mention the high cost of shipping on top of it. I also like that the IB doesn't take up much space, which was a problem with the other purifier. If you're interested in the Ionic Breeze we paid $250 for ours out of the Speigel catalog because it was cheaper than the TV offer, but I'm fairly certain I've seen some other places for as low as $200.

Thank you for the input!! We've gotten into major cleaning/organizing mode and thought about how great an air purifier would be for us. Our kitty sheds quite a bit and things tend to get very dusty around here quickly, so it's been bad for our allergies. I will check into all of the ones mentioned. Thanks again!
