 Hi,

I am new to this site. I have registered because I am looking for information on ice cream making. I recently bought an ice cream maker from ebay and am having trouble getting the ice cream to freeze. The maker is a monier brand and you put the tub with the mix in it inside another tub containing the ice and salt. The dasher goes around and around for hour after hour but the mix doesn't freeze like the instructions say it should.

Any suggestions?

I live in Australia where ice cream making doesn't seem to be such a big thing as in the USA. I haven't seen anyone else do it and so I am at a loss to know what I might be doing wrong.

Thanks.

Hmmm.. i dunno... is it possible you need to add egg yolks? As a thickening agent?

The icecream we make is made from a custard which you cook first... I don't have a copy of the recipe, but I'll get one from my mommy this w/e and post it for you. It is SOOOOO good. And pretty fail safe too.

HI!!
The ice cream machine my parents had just mixed around for about 30 min. then we had to put the container in the freezer for about an hour or so(which seemed like forever when your a kid and want ice cream). I'm not sure on you machine though...sorry. Do they have a website you can go to?

Thanks, Heather. The details regarding this machine suggest that it mixes for up to about 50 minutes and should be frozen and cut out. It's a thought to mix, freeze, mix, freeze perhaps. Could be awkward lifting it out of the salt mix. Don't know.

The company that made it is no longer in existence, as far as I can tell. I bought it on ebay and although it looks like it had never been used, it must be a fair age.

Anyway, some things to think about.

I couldn't find anything on the internet about an ice cream maker made by monier, I'm sorry.

I think it almost sounds like you got ripped off... have you tried to email the person you bought it off of, to see if they can help you out? I hope you get it working soon - home made ice cream is worth the hassle.

edit in - also, have you tried more then just one or two recipes? And followed them exactly? I know that sounds logical, but sometimes if its not completely exact, it won't turn out right.
