View Full Version : pruning bushes
Hi, I have three burning bushes along the side of my house. They were there when we moved in and they are tall and bushy at the top but sparse at the bottom. I would like to trim them down to a smaller size, will they fill out next summer? I know you don't trim them until fall but I still don't know if that will work.

Sorry C, I'm not 100% sure since we don't prune ours here, we let it sprawl.
Here is a blurb about pruning:

I have 2 Burning Bushes that I trim in the Fall...and they always come back strong, full and healthy the next spring! Hope this helps!

Hey C! What did you do about your burning bushes? I have them, every other bush, across the front of the house. They were here when we bought the place, and I've pruned both in spring and fall - and they always do fine. If you want them to bush at the bottom more, trim there a little. It will spur new growth. Also if you give them a good fertilizer appropriate for the season (winter/summer) it will really help. Ours are really great and require next to nothing unlike some of the other things I've got.
Just thought I'd check. :D (Of course after this season - you may not have any bushes left!)
