We just signed with a builder in Central California to have a home built in a development of approximately 180 homes. About 3 weeks after we chose our lot and put some money down, PG&E(power company) put a 4' x 4' transformer box at the edge of the front lot line. I don't have an issue with this box on my property however I wish they had placed it on the other side of the lot over where the garage is located. I contacted the salesperson who stated that they have no knowledge as to where these boxes will be placed. I then called PG&E and was told that they place the transformer in the "odd" lot line to keep more distance away from the circuit breaker house panel. The PG&E rep also told me that the design of their system is sent back to the builder and that this design was sent to them approximately 6 months ago.

I'm not trying to say that I don't want the box on my property however it would have been nice for the sales agent to disclose the placement of this box on the lot prior to us signing papers. Maybe the sales agent didn't know, but I'm sure someone who works for the builder had this information prior to us signing up for this lot. Do I have any legal recourse about this?

The builder offers a 3000 dollar "designer credit" to all home buyers. Maybe I should ask for another 500 or 1000 dollars as a make good gesture.

What do you think?

It's worth a try. However, you might want to look over the contract you signed with the company... they probably have some type of clause that covers things such as that.

Good luck!
