What an adorable house! I love it! It is so super cute! And look at that yard, its beautiful!
I don't know about what plants to plant (that sounds funny, huh?), but I know you do need to get two wooden rocking chairs, painted a beautiful red, and put them on that front porch with a little mosaic table between them. Also, you need to get some shutters put on the upstairs windows in the front... they don't need to close, lol, but they will add some character to the house. Maybe paint them a deep green color, so that they really pop. And use thin ones... fat ones would look out of place with such thin windows.
If the front of the house gets sun, I would put a half whiskey barrel in the corner of the driveway, where it meets the porch, and plant some herbs... or some lovely lavender. I love lavender, the colors you can get are just amazing, but the herbs are very useful, so thats a tough call.
Oh... and paint the outside of the step that is on the porch, the one that goes into the front door. You could paint it the same color as the shutters, lol. Not the whole step, just the part that is vertical. To really make the house stand out, paint the vertical trim around the top of the porch the same color as the shutters and step.
You also need a little something between the front door and the window... thats a large bare spot, and it will grate on you after a while. Nothing big and gawdy (and nothing with your name on it either, lol), but just a little something that says "Hey, look at me, I'm an amazing house and I'm beautiful" - a small bunch of dried flowers might look nice.
Anyway... I've rambled enough! I'm so thrilled for you Cat, how super exciting! It's a very cute house, and I hope you and your hubby will be very happy there (and the kids too of course). :D

wow farmgirl! wanna come do the exterior for me? :biglaugh: thank you so much for your excitement! It really makes me feel good. Lindsay is yet to small to know what's going on (her first b'day is tommorrow) but when i asked Deven (my 4 year old) which bedroom he wanted he said he wanted the living room cuz it's the biggest! It was so cute. and there is a lil neighbor boy his age. they met when were looking at it and hit it off right away. he loves the house and wants me to get a swing set for the back yard.

Can I have your house!!!
You have many gardening potential ideas. One piece of advice for that great lawn in your backyard. Get it into shape 1st ! Weed and Feed it as well as the front yard. Nothing ruins a great garden then a yucky lawn.
Big Clay/ terra cotta potters will look amazing on the porch and bring out that pop of colour. I would prep everything to get ready for the Spring. Plant tulips, hycinths, daffodiles come late August and then you will have a lovely start to your garden in the Spring.
Make sure you buy good soil to put in front of the porcha nd buy some edging. There are many kinds of edging ranging from plastic to stones and it really shows off your garden. But the most important part of a beautiful garden is prep work. I cleared out everything when we moved to this place. It is alot easier to start with a clean slate so to speak.
