We are in the process of getting a two-story modular built, and we're doing research on everything! When it comes to flooring, I need opinions though please! We really want hard-wood throughout the first floor, including the kitchen but not the bathroom. I'm not sure about tile, slate, pergo, or linoleum, as for putting in the bathroom, foyer maybe, and upstairs (though we're leaning towards carpet for the bedrooms). Any opinions would be very appreciated! :)

Ooooh, I love hardwood flooring, you lucky duck!! We have pergo in our bedroom and it is great. There are so many choices and it supposedly does well in any room. I really don't like carpeting, although I've seen some pretty nice ones out there. I just hate the dust and since we have a cat, her hair gets everywhere. It's better for mine and hub's allergies to not have carpet. At this point, I hate the tile in my house so much that I'd prefer anything over it. We have plain white, textured tile (came with the house) and it always looks dirty. Ugh! I really like stone tile, ceramic tile, mexican tile and slate. They all look nice, but I don't know anything about the maintenance/cleaning of them. Definitely something to look into before making a decision. Good luck and have fun floor shopping. :)

Hey Tigerlilly! I just now saw this or I would have answered you sooner. What have you decided on?
We recently did a renovation, so I can tell you about the master bath floor. We went with tile. It's the large tile that has a variation in it and looks like travertine (but BELIEVE ME it's not $$$$ !) ! I really love it and it's not a really shiny/slick surface so there hasn't been any problems as far as me, the clutz, falling or anything. Really easy to maintain and keep clean. And I went with a pewter/grey grout so it's MUCH easier that a white or anything like that. It's also in colors that if I change the wall paint or everything else, it will still be something that can work with numerous color schemes and designs.
The rest of my house is all hardwood. I have an older home so it came this way and slowly I've had them all refinished and polyed. Some places have area rugs, and I have that in our bedroom too because it's really a large room, but I too have allergies and it's just so easy to keep the hardwood clean as opposed to carpet.
I do have a frise carpet in my walk in closet and my family room (the family room used to be a garage) and we put laminate tile in the laundry room (also used to be the garage). It's a twisted pile berber so it doesn't show tracking as much and it won't pull if the puppies should get a nail caught. So far, I've been really pleased with it too - though it could use a cleaning already because the room gets SO much use! :D
Hope I haven't answered too late - but let me know if you've already done some things. I'm still working on stuff... getting it "back together" so I love comparing notes with people.
