I was curious if I could start putting in fall bulbs or is it too soon? I live in the middle of NY if that helps. Tulips just don't make it. I've tried lots of different varieties but it doesn't work in our soil. It tends to be a little rocky here. Daffadils and irises do ok.
But I'm really looking to get all my flower beds into a perennial garden. I have some I want that are full sun and some full shade and then some that are in between. I love greenery as well as flowering plants. It has been getting cooler here at night but not frost yet. That unfortantly will happen in the next month or so. I always have big plans of starting a garden and then time flies(and so does the snow:rolleyes: )

Hi Heather6673. I don't know you or anything, but I have done some gardening and I do know that you have to make sure that the time of year is right. If the ground is too warm or moist your bulbs will rott and mold. Close to after the first frost is a good time to plant bulbs as long as there is not supposed to be a big warm up after. Living in that part of the country, you should not have a problem. Have you thought about building a flower bed above the ground and filling with fresh dirt and not even digging into the stone? Just an idea, especially if you have a sister or relative who could help you. Bye.;) :D :) :smoking:

Thank you wyattm,You are so clever. Did you do landscaping perhaps in the south?
I would love a raised flower bed. Maybe if I ask someone might be willing to help.
;) :p :D

Someone told me to wait to plant bulbs after the first "killing frost". Then it is safe.
