I need some plant/bush suggestions for my back yard. The back wall of the garage faces east so it gets full morning sun but is in full shade by 2 pm. It is a tall brick wall that I would like to soften up by putting a bed along it (plus it corners with the patio and is very hard to get grass to grow the the corner). I am really wanting some sort of evergreen bush (2-3 depending on the size) that doesn't get over 5-6 feet tall. I have this neat little picture in my mind...I just don't know what types of plants to use. I want to kinda layer it out with some smaller flowering perinials then maybe edge it with hosta or monkeygrass.
I would even be open to some sort of climbing vine that I could use a trellis with...just something to make that wall look not so cold and tall.
HELP! Any and all suggestions appreciated!

Ok, I'm a total brown thumb so unfortunately I can't help, but one thing popped out when you asked about the climbing vine. We are thinking of doing that on one of our back fences and using bouganvillas. Don't know if they work in your climate though. I started a thread about my bougies not blooming and D replied yesterday with another suggestion on a growing vine with beautiful flowers. Maybe that would work for you too!

Thanks C -- I saw your thread...I had a boug once and it didn't do well...not sure if it was the plant...or the caretaker! I tried to find D's vine on the web to see it, but I can't find it...I wonder if it has another name?

Hi Monkey girl
It would help if you gave your location, as the climate zones matter. Also things that i suggest may not be available in your area.
Vines and climbers that would be perfect for your morning sun exposure
ALL ARE FLOWERING TOO!
HUMMINGBIRD VINE Sun Partial shade
Covers almost any kind of support -- arbors, brick walls, fences, even covers ugly utility poles. Will tolerate some shade or poor soils. Will attract HummingBirds
HONEYSUCKLE Sun Partial shade
Hardy, FAST growing! Hall's Honeysuckle will cover a bank or other area quickly as a ground cover - even in poor soil
CLIMBING HYDREANGEA Partial sun or shade
Clings to brick or wooden walls without support. Does equally well in shade or sun. We recommend the Climbing Hydrangea for northwest walls or places where shade is dense in summer. Will grow up to 80 feet
SILVER LACE VINE
Actually grows up to 12 feet the very first year. Very hardy and easy to grow
YELLOW TRUMPET VINE sun partial shade
Plant this old-time favorite -- hummingbirds find it irresistible. vigorous grower reaches 20' or more
BOSTON IVY Sun to partial shade NON- FLOWERING
A classic Ivy like you might see in New England. . As Fall approaches, your whole wall turns into a riot of color with shades of yellow, orange, scarlet and purple. No trellis necessary, it clings by itself to any stone or masonry wall.
CLEMATIS Sun to partialshade
My personal favorite - but is tempermental. If you give it TLC you will be fine. Comes in many many color variets and blooms profusly
Hope this helps! ;)

Thanks for the information Bingo! I am in the central south (think "Bible Belt")! Usually very hot summers with lots of humidity and mild winters.
Do you know of any websites I could go to to see these plants you mentioned? I haven't had much luck finding good landscaping sites??
I really appreciate it!
